We got sabrina a little over a week ago. When we had her about two days I noticed she was dragging her back left leg, I don't know if I just didn't notice it at first and I attributed it to a birth defect since it didn't appear to bother her. Well I noticed today that she is now dragging both her back legs. She has what looks like might be sores or might be natural I can't tell, two spots on her inner upper thigh but both feet are completely limp and she is dragging them :( I do have a vet appt. 1st thing in the AM but I just feel so bad and I want to know what's wrong with her. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what it might be?

New info discoverd. This was on a vet forum and the question was the same as yours. Here is the answer:
It is quite common for animals who have been paralysed to make sores on their feet. This is because they can't place their feet or legs in the normal way. It is unfortunately a problem that tends to get worse unless the paralysis can be corrected. Your vet will discuss the whole situation with you to establish if this needs to be the case.

Did he drop from a high height lately?

Try searching dragging legs guinea pig on google.

Sorry I have posted so many times. Here is another answer.

Surprisingly this type of paralysis is a relatively common condition that can occur in guinea pigs for which we have never found satisfactory explanation. It is a paralysis, which happens overnight in the hindquarters of a guinea pig.

They still have a very healthy appetite and there is no other indication that anything is wrong.

I would strongly suggest that you seek professional advice with regards further investigation of your guinea pig's symptoms.
Some symptoms of this are cold feet, "sores" on legs, no other indication that anything is wrong... etc.

thank you for the help. I did google and unfortunately it doesn't look too promising. I'm just glad my husband is getting overtime pay this week because it doesn't look like it's going to be a cheap vet bill ( My children are always loving her and I'm just afraid that they may have hurt her (

Where would I get liquid calcium?

It's said that 50 mg of vitamin c tablets a day will work. Look for pure vitamin c tablets at the health food store with no added "junk"

I have the liquid calcium drops. You put it in their water. Its from UltraVite. It keeps your piggies healthy! You can get it at any pet store.

You shouldn't put drops in their water and extra calcium is bad unless they are pregnant or sick.

And i feel sooo sorry for you and your piggie! She looks cute :) I hope she gets better!

actually it says to add it on the bottle and in every piggie book i read

The problem with adding anything to her water is that she hardly drinks any so I don't think she will get enough and I also am having problems getting all her Vit C to her as well. I give her lots of Red peppers and put vit c in her water I also have some homeopathic vit. c tablets but she doesn't like them.

The bottle is trying to sell their product and piggie guide books are usually wrong.

Aw dang. And maybe she doesnt drink cause of all the veggies. Those have a load of vit. C. and Lots of water. Try rose-hip. it has 500 mg of Vit. C in it :)

and i know its off topic but how do you make a 'thread'??
i want to make one

So do you think I should cancel the vet appointment and try the calcium and then see if that works first?

you just click new topic at the top of the page )

I dont know if you should cancel it or not.i do think that the vet is the best bet.i think they will tell you the same thing as we did. and thanks :) I hope your cute piggie gets better :)

Not if you already scedualed it. It's probbly good anyways. It just could've saved money that's all :)

I don't know about the calcium but if it were my pig I would definitely take him to the vet (a vet who knows gp's.)

There's LOTS of information on the 'net, some great and some garbage, but no one the internet is looking at YOUR pig right NOW.

(This is a personal opinion, from someone who hasn't that much experience with pigs.)
