Rubber bath mat

I saw alot of chinese cavy websites (taiwan & hong kong), they like to use rubber bath mat on top of the bedding. The idea is to separate the bedding from guinea pigs, so that they won't get dirty. Any opinions?

i thought the best part of shavings was that they burried the poop. with bath mats, dont the solids AND liquids just float on top??? if they want to keep clean, fleece seems like a heck of a lot better option. i just dont understand this concept.

Huh?! If it's on top, then the bedding won't even serve any purpose... It won't soak up urine or anything. If it's chewed it could be harmful (choking, etc.) I wouldn't do that in my life.

I think they meant urine go down to the bedding & cavies won't sit on the wet bedding.

How can the urine go through a rubber bath mat? Perhaps they are different? The bath mats in the US are one big piece, not pourous.

Should be go through the rubber mat hole, then bedding soak up the urine. So the piggies are sitting on the rubber mat & not on the wet bedding. As shown on the picture, the rubber mat is not those used on the bath tub, but those put on floor. Maybe is not called rubber mat. It's like rubber fencing?

They also claim that the rubber mat hole is small so it won't hurt the piggies' foot.

The picture didn't show up, I just see the Tripod logo

Huh? I can see it here. Maybe you can see it at (broken link removed)

still cant see it

You can't view picture from tripod? Nervermind, I upload that picture to another site. Hope you can see it now.

I don't think that is good for their feet, looks like wire. This is what a bathmat looks like here in the US...I think you can see the confusion that arose :) Bathmats, in the US, are suction on the back and stick in the tub, to keep one from slipping while taking a shower. They are not pourous at all.

I also don't know what should it be called. As I know people put it on bathroom floor so won't slip while walking on the wet floor.

oh, i pictured something totally different! well, i wouldnt try it. might cause callouses/blisters on their feet

The picture looks like the bath thing is raised up and looks like it is wire which is bad for the pigs. If it is raised up like that then they may et bumblefoot.

And the cage doesn't look big enough.

bumblefoot! thats the name i couldnt remember. thanks, my baby mu. yes, yes, they will get bumblefoot

There is another name but I forgot that too.

That looks like just plain everyday wire bottom to me and I wouldn't put any animal on that. Poor feet. try yourself first see how you like it standing on it 24/7 . You will definitely change your mind.
