Hello all,

In september Im going to Edmonton. I will have 2 piggies then, how will I bring them but still keep them confertable, healthy and happy? I live in Calgary, so its about a 3hour drive. They will be traveling in our brig red van (there will be lots of space) in probly a dog or cat crate. What things should I have in the crate? Should we stop every hour or so to give them a little breather? any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks for your time

How long are you going for?

My first preference would be to leave them home with a professional pet-sitter.

If I was only going for a few days, I'd leave them with a sitter like Slap suggested. Luckily, I have several trustworthy, animal-obsessed friends who fill this role (there are no local petsitters).

When I have traveled with my pigs (moved 5 hours away), I brought them in an old pet store cage. They basically had their same environment, just smaller, which worked well for the few hours they had to be in the car. Plus, it was larger than a cat carrier, and I didn't have worry about supplies falling and whatnot. My pigs are road warriors ;)

The problem here is people here (pet sitting place) are only obsessed wit hdogs and cats. Everywhere its jsut "bring your dogs or cats here" I have called around and send e-mails and jsut can't find anywhere! There is one place that said they had never taken a guinea pig before but they would take my 2, and I have no faith that they will do a good job if they have never taken care of a guinea pig before. And the problem getting friends is I have no friends! I actuallly jsut moved here just over a week ago and I will be gone from here for 3 weeks this summer which will leave no time to meet anyone. Im leaving one the 11th of september and Im not sure if I will be able to find someone I REALLY trust to take care of them while I gone. does anyone know anywhre that takes care of guinea pigs in the Calgary area?
