We lost our Meringue last night to ovarian cysts. She was 5.
I went to feed her and her sister Gizmo this morning, filled their dish and new hay. Usually they weak every morning when they hear me. This morning I heard nothing. Gizmo came slowly out of the pigloo and sat beside the hay pile without touching it and just stared at me; as much as to say "you need to look". I took a peak in their hut and found Meringue.
I've only ever had 1 guinea pig at a time in the past. This is the first time I've experienced a death with another one still alive. It just amazed me to see the solemn look on Gizmo's poor face telling me there was something wrong. Guinea pigs never cease to amaze me after all these years having them as companions.
Rest in peace Meringue.
