Rescuing from pet shops....

^^^thats exactly what I thought until I saw this forum. You see I work at petsmart. I bought 1 guinea pig from them when I first started working there because I didnt know that you could adopt guinea pigs, but the other 4 cavies that I have I have adopted. I refuse to buy any more pets from my store even though I work there (except for fish!)

Do you REALLY want to help guineas?

Then be patient and lure more people into this movement by
being nice to them first instead of spraying them with bunch of
interrogating-like questions and judgement.


I'm talking about 'effeciency' here.
If you could be little patient about new owner's dumb(as we think)
questions, we could potentially attract more good hearted guinea
lovers.

Most of animal-lover-haters(Oh, they are out there, more then you think.)
hate animal lover or animal loving movement for exactly this reason.
They are too extreme, and self-righteous.

I guess I'm too political-minded to be an activist.
But that doesn't mean I don't love animals.

I hate to say it, but you're wrong. The people here are very kind and helpful. If you read the note above this forum, it has some helpful advice to offer:
"If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen".

Have you ever heard the song, 'You've got to be cruel to be kind'? It's like that. We'll never be able to stop the chain of abuse by coating everything in sugar.

Humans in general are the self-righteous ones. We think we're so smart, we forget about those around us. Which is why this forums exists. To change that. At least, that's what I think.

I do agree with one thing, however. You are a little too political-minded to be an activist. It doesn't have to stay that way though, if you just open your eyes and realize that the people here are nicer than some.

But that's just my opinion.

I don't think that's an excuse really. If there are no shelters or rescues, one can still look for piggies on petfinder or craigslist or even in their local newspapers before even considering buying a pig at the petstore or breeder. I also believe that most people who are adamant about getting pigs from rescues or shelters are willing to drive for a couple hours if need be to do an adoption.

That may well be true but not a lot of people in the UK are aware that there are actual rescue's out there that have Guinea Pigs or Rabbits and though people may come here for advice they have usually already gotten their piggies from a pet store. Personally I think it needs to be publisised more but how i dont know. I did think about going into these Petstore and going to the For Sale Board and putting up an advert for local rescue's but which ones do you choose and how long would the advert stay there for.

I have stood and watched people admiring and looking at the Piggys and Rabbits being housed together and suggested about doing more research and using a local rescue but I am a minority does it take just me to do this.

The Internet is a great thing to use but some households still do not have the pleasure of one. I have seen loads of Free Ads offering Free to Good Homes but how many do you take in and where do you draw the line. You cant rescue them all but at least its a start

When I say a few people are a bit harsh here, I said that from my
experience. I've seen very rude, hostile replies from here.
Not many - a few. (I never said most of people here are rude.)

So, I'm not arguing anything, I was just just simply stating the fact.

My eyes are wide open. Trust me.

It's the extreme activist who is into their idea so deep that they
are blinded. - people who snap at new commers here for example.

Because my eyes are open, I undestand - at least partially - why
some people hate this kind of movement or animal activist.
I always try to reach out to those "animal lover haters" by
understanding flaws of what we believe and why they hate us.

That's basic politics. When you think you are absolutely, 100% right,
all the time, you are bound to be incorrect, or to come off ignorant at
least, hence repeling potential friends. friends being other potential
animal lovers out there.



It looks like I'm OPPOSING to core idea of this forum, however,
it's precisely the opposite.

I WANT more people to be interested in animals and forum such as this.
so there will be more people who love and appreciate the animals.

That's what I want and I think being nice to new commers with
dumb questions is a start.

Nobody needs sugar coating. You are right.
But, I didn't mean sugar coating - just basic decency.

And contrary to what you believe, there are few who don't have that
in here. I've experienced it.

You might want to try to understand the context as whole,
not pick on exact dictionary definition of each single word.

The other people understood it, just not you.

I only used words political-minded/activist to explain the way I see things
when it comes to dealing with issue that was brought up by this
thread.

Political-trying to be smooth and effienct about getting things done
not so much as in following the fundamental idea by the book.
Activist- the opposite of political.

Above isn't necessarly correct definitions, but in context such as
this thread, people usually understand what those mean.
A few post above, someone correctly understood what I ment.
He was opposed to my idea in general, but he understood what I was
meaning fine.

I just want to say how much i have learned from this thread.I'v had 4 piggies and yes one is from the pet store but no worries he is in great health. My first piggy I rescued from my sister's house i found him with no water no food so i took him that night. my second piggy i got at the pet store.My other 2 i adopted @ this little piggy and me in cincinnati, ohio. I feel the reason for that is it's in my heart. Not only all the reasons above, But it's always been in my heart to adopt.
