Renaming Rescue Pigs

I am adopting two pigs from (broken link removed), (broken link removed) (boar and sow). I asked the lady about changing their names, and she said she had no problem with it. (I was thinking Maia and Juno... maybe not). But my question is... is it confusing to the pig/unhealthy to the pig to rename them? Who here renamed their rescue pigs?

This is not really answering your question but that rescue is kind of near me and I think I may adopt in the future sometime....what do you think about that shelter?

I havn't been to the shelter itself, but the woman who runs it (it is at her home) is amazing. You can listen to her speech on guinea pigs here:

Contact her at [email protected]. Ask her anything. Tell her Bailey reffered you. She is very pleasent.

Best of luck!

Their names are really more for the benefit of the owner. You can kind of teach them their names by giving veggies when you say their name, but it becomes just an association. IT won't mess them up at all.

Thank you! The only issue I would see is disrespect to the lady who named them, I would feel badly. But I am just to sensitive.

I renamed my rescue pig from Carrot to Pumpkin to match the other two pigs names (Peaches and Pineapple). I don't think Erin minded, at least I sure hope not! Erin?

They are your pigs. It doesn't really matter what they think (no offense) I wouldn't change them name if it suited the guinea pig and you liked it.I'm still looking for a new name for apollo.

I renamed one of my pigs but I always call them 'Piggies!' or ' Caviaaaaaaaaaaaaatjes' anyway.

Your Tia looks just like my Piggles and Scruffles all black with white nose. So cute together.

I disagree renaming a GP is okay. People may not realize this but GP's learn the sound of their name.

I volunteer for a rescue where a GP was turned in. The person running the rescue decided to change the name, but the foster realized she would come to the side of the cage if called by her old name. Unfortunately, when she was adopted, though the adopters were told what name she answered to they decided to change it one more time.

I am sure a very young pig wouldn't notice the difference. I have adopted 3 GP's and have kept the names they were given even though I didn't really care for the names. I felt they needed something familiar with so much change going on.
