Hi all! I am new to the guinea pig world, and new to this forum. I know they can eat the red leaf lettuce but I just don't know how to feed it to Bela (my guinea pig). Do I just give her the whole leaf or cut it into pieces? So far I have only fed her carrots and green bell pepper (in addition to her pellets and timothy hay), the previous owner never fed her an veggies or even got her out of the cage. Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

Bela's human mommy.

You can give it to her whole, I suppose. Just make sure to rinse it with water to get off any bugs/dirt.

I tear my lettuce up because my pigs have cagemates and I don't want them fighting over it. So that's something to consider if you get a second piggie.

I just rip off a leaf and give it to mine. She drags the whole thing to wherever she decides to eat it. :)

I tend to tear it up for my piggies because an ENTIRE leaf has been giving my piggies mushy poos (the BIG ones I mean)

You can give it either way. Check out in the diet/nutrition section the great food list. Guinea pigs can have a great variety of veggies and fruits. The list will tell you what they can have and how often.

Thanks! I ended up just ripping the leaves of the rib section. I only have the one so far, but we are hoping to expand with another female by the end of this month.

I tear up the lettuce leaves and scatter them around the kitchen area during veggie feeding time.

1) that way there's less fighting amongst my girls regarding their veggie
2) they seem to enjoy being able to find veggie all around them than in a single bowl
3) since the veggie is everywhere, they don't need to fight over a bowl to get their veggie
