I was wondering if anyone had any good recipes for guinea pigs?

What they need is unlimited hay, some good quality pellets and a good variety of fresh vegetables every day and occasional fruits. https://www.guinealynx.info/nutrition.html How about just making a nice salad for them with small amounts of lots of different kinds of veggies?

I know some people like to make biscuits and things gor them. Although it may amuse us to make things for them, really they're happiest and healthiest on a diet that is as fresh and natural as possible. We definitely don't want to be introducing any fats or sugars (including honey) in to their diet. They don't digest sugars and fats well so all you're doing is putting stress on their body and weaning their taste buds on to unhealthy foods. People do that very well of course, but I don't think we should inflict it on pets!

I didn't notice the name thing until just now, when I went to write it and sounded it out. I thought it was a bit odd how a piggy could be described as "tasty"! How sickening, how utterly sickening. That's all I am going to say.

I knew there was something fishy about the name "eetzgnepgs" . I had been trying to figure out what it meant or stood for. Like my name stands a slave to my piggies Cinnamon and sprikles because I couldn't fit all the names of each of my piggies. And it took me forever to realize that "mncavylover" stood for minestota cavy lover. Well anyways I knew there was something weird about that name.

I think it is totally sick and disgusting how someone could be so LOW as to post their pig as tasty when no one here even thinks of their piggy like that. They are our pets! Just totally WRONG!

Regardless of whether the post was simply made for a response, at the end of the day, unless you're a vegetarian, you can't bag on someone for eating a certain animal over others. It's not that some animals ask and deserve to be eaten and others don't - just that our society/ culture tells us which it's okay to eat, which are treasured pets and species, or which are too dirty to eat.

However, posting about eating a certain animal on a message board where people obviously care for them only as pets is lame. It did cross my mind that the post may mean that but I decided to award the author a little more credit (and didn't even notice the username) - more fool me!

Too true. My coworker took a trip to Equador and visited a house where they had guinea pigs running all around in the kitchen, which had a dirt floor and was covered in hay. When it was time for dinner, "pop" in they went into the pot. Considering the size of their accomodations, they may have had a short life but at least they were relatively free to enjoy the life they had. Undoubtably a much better life than the chickens and cows that we eat on a regular basis.

The other morning while watching the local news channel they were doing a story on an Ecudorian festival in the area and lo and behold there was actually a platter of porr little roasted piggies being shown on tv! I know that they are eaten but did not need to see them on a platter. I e-mailed the station to tell them that I found the image quite offensive. I really was quite disturbing, but I realize that all cultures are different. Poor piggies.

I agree with Treen. Though we find it sickening, many cultures probably find ours disgusting, too. This person just shouldn't have posted this on a piggy-friendly site, because of course we will find it sad.

yes it was in poor taste for them to make a name like that and then make a posting such as that....kinda funny though ) to each his own right? while we are feeding our guinea pigs to keep them happy, they are feeding them to their families to keep them healthy....everyones different i guess

I bet it was mistake he doesnt know how to read and thought this was a cavy breed n eat site or something.It really doesnt sicken me that much because we had someone living here in ottawa Who hoarded and ate them.In friggin canada its not like its a economicly challenged country like god.Eats guinea pigs Bla hes not a freak either.I bet vegetarians find us who eat porkchops and steak disgusting.I love Meat and i love pigs.Hes loves to eat pigs.Theres no point in banning him or even yelling at him its just his ways.And yes i think its sad just not sick.
