Hey cavy lovers,
i have a question about the new 2 level cage i am building now for my three princesses. I obviously need a ramp, but since their old cage was only one level, i am not sure what to cover the ramp with. I will probably make it out of wood, but do i cover it with carpet, tread, or what? I have looked at all the pictures on this site that have ramps, but none have given me any good ideas. what should i use?

Also, the cage that i am building is more than twice the size of my old cage, so i have decided to switch from carefresh to aspen maybe with a bit of carefresh on top to reduce odor. But, my girls have never learned to use a litter box, so i really have been trying to ghet them to use it now to reduce on the cost of bedding. I put it in the corner where they usually pee, put food in it, filled it with dirty bedding to give them the idea, but one of them has just claimed it as her personal throne which she lays on daily. As far as i can see, the litter box has become no dirtier so i doubt she is going to the bathroom in it.

Please help me with my stubbornm piggies!!!!!
Thanks,
Grace

I wouldnt use wood for your ramp. You dont want urine getting into the wood. I used 2 grids which I bent on both sides and placed one in the other and tied it together with the tie connectors when I got the right length. I used a carpet mat to cover my ramp and then added a piece of fabric to cover it.

I use aspen on my 1st level and I am quite happy with it. I have 2 girls and my cage is 2x4 3 level. I find I dont have to clean the cage out for 2 weeks. They usually go in one area which I just add aspen to until I am ready to clean.

I wouldnt use wood because your pigs could get splinters. I use bent grids with coroplast then fleece. To have an idea of what it looks like, look at my gallery. I use fleece and newspaper for bedding and it is much cheaper. I use pine shavings in the litter box. Do your pigs have cozies. Maybe she is laying in the shavings because she wants a cozie bed. I hope my ideas help.

Lots of people use wood pellets, i.e. woody pet. They're safe and absorbant

I am having the same question expect for a rabbit
making a 2 level cage but i also need help how to make a ramp
i can't seem to bend the c&c cage pannals and need help with it what can i use for carp for ramp
i was going to use 3 or 4 bricks *concet* bricks and make steps that might work
i already got him litter train

For rabbits, I'm not sure that they actually need ramps--I was under the impression they could just jump to the next level (basing this on what I've seen in the photo galleries...). Take a look at the C&C cages for other animals in the photo galleries and see what has been used. For rabbits, though, I don't think you necessarily need one (please, anyone, correct me if I'm off the mark here!). Maybe just build a bit of a platform with the bricks so that your rabbit can just jump from there? Oh, and for a "how to" on how to bend a ramp, here is a link (pics 19-25) https://www.guineapigcages.com/phot...ort=1&perpage=12&password=&ppuser=&what=&name=&=
Good luck!

i think i go for the bricks till my bunnie get bigger or maybe he can reach i don't know yet i put him on the top and he was looking down trying to find a way down i try it tomarow or tuesday when i don;t have class so i can look after him

he a mini rex should use ALOTof wire ties to hold it ?

I'm realizing now why wood isn't the greatest thing to use for a ramp. The cage is getting a little smelly. Now we have to take it all apart and revamp the ramp.
