This is just another story of how rabbits don't mix with guinea pigs, but ah well - each one might teach somebody how to look after their pets properly. At work we've had a rabbit in with 5 female guinea pigs, because it had been arguing with another female rabbit who it was housed with. At first the rabbit seemed to be perfectly fine in with the pigs, it really likes these little friends, but a couple of days ago it attacked one of the guinea pigs. There are bald patches and a few scratch and bite marks on the guinea's back (which I did clean with antiseptic, although it's not too deep). Then I inspected another guinea pig, one who was ALWAYS with the rabbit, slept with it, was always huddled up to it outside the hutch in the pen. That guinea pig also had a few bald patches and was underweight. The rabbit had taken such a liking to it that it would not let it mix with the other pigs, even for breakfast! But evidently, because the guinea pigs were not affectionate enough for the rabbit, it had been having a go at them out of frustration, and a rabbit is a much stronger and quite a larger animal than those little guinea pigs, and they could not defend themselves. Anyway - the rabbit has gone, and the guinea pigs are recovering. There was a bit of an argument when the rabbit had gone and its slaves were reintroduced to the pack, but now they all seem to have made it up and are enjoying each other's company again. This is just another one of those stories but it just goes to show that rabbits really don't mix with guinea pigs - they're just completely different animals.

Edited to add: It's definitely NOT mites, by the way, because you can see the scratches. Plus only the guinea pigs who were with the rabbit had it, not all of them.
