Hey. I am thinking about getting a little piggy since I recently lost my hedgehog. My sister has had cavies in the past so I know most things about them but I was just wondering if you can litter train them? I have heard that you can but only once so I was just curious because I am trying to come up with a cage design and want to know if I could include a littler or not. Thank-you.
-Numpty.

You can and you can't because it really just depends on the piggies personailty. But if you do do not use cat litter!! Use bedding.

I heard that you can use non-clumping and dust free litter though.

Make sure to get two, and not one. Adoption is always the best!

Yes, you can litter train some. Most people just use bedding for their litter trays --> Aspen, careFresh etc

Okie Dokie then. Thanks a lot!

I wouldn't use any type of cat litter due to the possibility of the piggers eating it and possibly choking on it.

if the pig ate cat litter it could possible swell in their stumach too, i would use bedding

Some cat litters, like yesterdays news, and feline pine are okay to use.

I agree, get two same sex cavies. Try your hardest to adopt. Where are you located?

hey dont they have specially formulated potty litter for small pets?

That would just be plain bedding.

thanks for the help

I am located in Nova Scotia, Canada. There isn't any adopting piggies around here.

I guess buying is your best option then just be careful!!!

I couldn't find any in Nova Scotia, but maybe you could look in cities near you?
(broken link removed)
Also couldn't find anything, but maybe you could put in your zip code?

I don't know if you can find anything here... I looked for a while, but didn't really understand how the site worked.. hah. Sorry!

Is Nova Scotia anywhere near Ontario? There is one white guinea pig in Ontario. They don't know the breed, but if you look on cavyrescue in Ontario (if anywhere near you) you could e-mail her... Or something. I'll keep looking for guinea pigs in Nova Scotia.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with Canada!

I really can't agree with you, amfeider. Buying is never the best option anyone can make, only if you are living in a totally different country where guinea pigs are rare, and in Canada, guinea pigs aren't really rare...
I'm sure she/he can find (a) guinea pig(s) somewhere in Nova Scotia or somewhere near there.

You click on "Merchandise(Ugh)" and then Pets/Animals
Some of the people on this site were ignorant when trying to find homes for their animals, or looking for animals. But, there were some free guinea pigs and such in Canada to give to a good home. In NF Canada GAIL page 2 was looking to give 2 guinea pigs away. I don't know how far NF is from Nova Scotia!

Also, on page 7 there is a Guinea pig with all accessories good to free home in NB? Don't know what that is? Located in Saint John, user name Ted.

Sorry, I don't know if this will help!

Yeh thanks everyone but I've already looked in some of those places that you gave me links for and if I can't find one to adopt then I might be able to get one from a relative that owns a pet store so I know it would be a good animal and all that at least.

yes, but you would still be supporting breeders

Oh well I guess. Either way if there is one available it's gonna need a home eh.
