So I just adopted a five month old female named Piglet. I came home from work today and noticed that she still hadn't made a dent in the bottle since I first put her in the cage yesterday afternoon. I know for a fact she's at least eating, some of her food was gone and I hand fed her some vegetables so I would know for a fact that she was eating.

Also, is it normal for a cavy of this age to want to hide all of the time?

Its completely normal try covering one side of the cage with a towel.

I've been learning more and more each day about my pigs. They are so unique just like humans. They've been together forever and yet they are so different that they make me laugh. One tends to drink more than the other, but it also seems that they will drink more water when I'm home than they do when I'm at work. Go figure.

Thanks! I noticed today that when I had her out to clean out her cage a bit, she loved to hide in an empty Dr. Pepper box (one of the 20 pack ones). Is it safe for her to have this in her cage? Or will chewing on it harm her?

I have two 4 month old boy piggies that I adopted a little over a month ago. I have two water bottles in their cage. one is plastic , the other is glass. They only drink from the glass bottle. I noticed the plastic bottles tip protrudes at least an inch more into the cage. It could just be the bottle, also check to make sure the ball is not clogged up and that water is coming out when you touch the ball.

good luck

I put a bowl of water in her cage. She seems to be more keen on drinking from that I noticed while watching her behavior today.
