Question in regards to male guineapig genitals!

I will try and word this tactfully. I have noticed that our male pig seems to have "something" hanging out of his bottom area for the last couple of days and I don't think it is his genitals. I have gently touched it and it doesn't seem to bother him. He is pooping normally and I just wondered if this is normal. I have looked at guinea pig sexing pictures and what he has I have not seen on the pictures.

Any help would be appreciated as I am a first time pig owner.

Is it white goo?

No it's not a discharge. I first thought it might be his "manhood" because it is fleshy, but it doesn't look like any pictures I've seen.

Could you possibly take a picture? Where is it on him?

It's at his butt and it's between his testicles. It's like hanging skin. I don't know, but it could be his penis. He's 7 months old so I don't know if it's a puberty thing or what. Unfortunately I'm not able to take a picture.

The "something" hanging down is his ----skin. It protects his -----. Check on guinea lynx.com for explicit pics and terms. It is important to monitor that area and keep it clear, as sometimes hair can get caught there, and even wound around, which can cause serious problems.

I was going to promise not to post on this thread, but I couldn't resist. ;)

I'm glad that you posted. I felt a little funny inquiring about this, but it's no my area of expertise:)

"inverted prepuce" = inside out foreskin, the loose fold of skin covering the glans clitoridis.

This is completely normal for the lil guy and his brother boar cavys. It keeps his stuff from dragging on the ground.

If you look at the pictures on guinea lynx.com, you will see how to determine the sex of a cavy, if not readily apparent. Thus, if you put a little pressure just above that area where this skin-like appendage is, you will find that there is definitely something in there, and that you have a boy. Congratulations!

Well there you go:) Thanks again for your help! And, I have seen more guinea pig genitalia in the last couple of days, on the internet, to last me a lifetime:)

Cool :) Anytime.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the pictures. Someone was posting some of them a month ago and a few of the members here fell out of their computer chairs.

roosterboy, those pictures werent appropriate on that thread.

I did see some of it, but let me assure you, I had nothing to do with it!

ok, all right. i believe you.

then why were you banned?

Because I used funny terms for the guinea pig genetalia instead of the proper latin terms. And because I told the thread poster that it wasn't a sin to have babies if done responsibly.

But what I was really saying there to the poster, and I don't know if anyone realized, was to just own up to it. The "Aarrgh" thread was this rediculous explanation from an obviously happy parent, of how some stork came in the middle of the night and turned one of her girl piggies into a male and tadaa! there were instant babies one morning. Absolutely impossible. I guess you could call the poster an im-poster? So I was just saying there, to just be happy take care of them or find them good homes. And I actually thought the terms I used were alot tamer than the gross latin terminology. I mean, come on, we don't speak latin.

Cavy babies, you're talking about? There is absolutely no reason that is justifiable for breeding, period. If you have the room, take some from a shelter in. You want to see birth? Rent a movie, there are some out there. I'd be perfectly happy to discuss this at length if you're interested. =)

Anyhow, I'm glad that this mystery got solved.

Yes, she allowed her cavys to have babies, and then she acted as if it were a total surprise to see the pups walking around one morning, and just had to post and tell everyone about it.

Hmm. It's been a long time since that thread was posted, so I really can't say I remember. Are you positive that this is the case?

Yeah, it's back on page 10, or now maybe 11 of cavy chat, entitled, "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!"

I havnt been on here for a while now, but I was the poster of that thread.

I swear, It was NOT INTENTIONAL BREEDING!!!!!! I thought i had only girls, and I am truly offended roosterboy that you could be soooooo judgemental and so quickly make that assumption so confidently. You have no place to be thinking those things. It was an accident, and I truly thought Floppy was a girl. You can check my vet records if you want - call them. I am really offended by this - i think you jumped to a conclusion really quickly. I am shocked with disbelief at how confident you were about your assumption, when you were VER VERY WRONG!

Yes, if you want to call my vet, we are in Australia. The name is Exotics Veterinary Care. i dont have the number offhand, i will get it and post later. My vets name is Dr. Gillian Koepping.
