Quarantine questions...

Hello, all -- first-time poster here, with some dumb questions about the quarantine period for new piggies. My partner and I have one male pig, Cesar (seen (broken link removed) in his holiday finery) and will be adopting another male this Saturday. Cesar is about two years old, and the new pig is about eight months. I know the new pig needs to be quarantined for three weeks -- what should we be keeping our eyes open for during that time? We plan to use that time to let the new piggie get to know us, and I assume that we can't start to introduce him to Cesar until the three weeks is up... and, just out of curiousity, why is the quarantine three weeks long?

I don't know why quarantine is that long for sure, but sometimes it just takes a while for piggie ailments to reveal themselves. Sometimes mites can come weeks after they've been moved into a new household because of stress. I would look for soft droppings, recurring eye fluids(if it just happens once and doesn't come back, it's probably just from them cleaning themselves, sometimes it happens.), blood in the pee, visible parasites, discharge from eyes, butt, nose, ears, etc., and continuing sneezing. By the way, cute piggie!

thats actually all correct.

because sometimes piggie sicknesses can take a while to show up. you just dont want to introduce it to your other piggie.
