Hi there!

I don't have any pigs yet (still researching) but I plan on adopting two female babies. I will hopefully get them around the same time. My question is, Can I put them both in the same cage right away (since they are babies) or do I have to keep them separate for a little while until they get used to each other?

I have tried searching for this answer but all I seem to see are introducing one older pig to a new baby...possible I have missed something.

Anyways, thanks in advance!!!

If you are getting them from the same place or good places where you don't need to quarantine them, then yes you can put them in a neutral zone. If you are getting them the same day and nobody has been in the cage, that's neutral. Since they are babies, chances are they will bond quickly.

IMO, if they are babies, meaning under 3 months, then I think putting them together without doing proper introductions is fine. Babies will get along with anyone, at least from what I've seen. If they come from the same place and they know each other, even better.

If they are older than 3 months, I wouldn't risk it. Here is everything you need to know on how to introduce guinea pigs successfully: http://guinea-pigs.livejournal.com/3002707.html

Please adopt your pigs, do not support the cruelty that's behind pet stores and breeders. Adoption can guarantee a much healthier, happier guinea pig than any pet store or breeder, no doubt. If you choose to adopt, then quarantine is not necessary. If the pigs come from places like Craigslist, pet finder.com, guineapig finder.com, etc. then quarantine them in separate rooms. If you look up "quarantine" in the search bar above you will get countless threads about the topic that offer everything you need to know.

Good luck
