Hi, I just got our first two cavy's. I am a divorced single dad and my kids are so excited to have them. Meet Prince and Phineas. I had to talk my son out of naming him Batman, so this was his next choice. They are twin boys...they are my 2 p's in a pod. I do have one question. We got them today, they are 4 weeks old. They haven't really eaten yet. Is that normal? I have Timothy hay and recommended pellets. I also have lettuce, cilantro, and carrots for them as well as several other options in the fridge. Oh, I also want to say this site has been a huge help. I am very thankful to have found it "before" buying one from Petsmart or buying a cage. I love my C and C cage and I hope they do too.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! :D Yes, it's normal that they aren't really eating. They're still getting used to their surroundings. Cute pigs and kids!;)

Welcome Preacherman! Awesome picture of both of your kids and your new piggies!

You have come to the right place. There is great reading material with a wealth of info for the care of your pigs.
To start with, the piggies are new to all of this also. It will take some time for them to settle down, get used to you and your children and their new surroundings.
In your c&c cage make sure you have 2 of everything. 2 hideys, 2 feed dishes and 2 water bottles. Have a place for unlimited hay, so they have hay at all times.

In the diet/nutrition thread, written by Ly&pigs is an awesome food list of what the guys can have. They will need a cup of veggies a day. 1/4 cup of plain pellets a day. Alfalfa based as they are under 6 mths old. And unlimited grass hay. No iceberg lettece.
They may not have had many veggies. Just keep introducing them. You can offer veggie pieces during lap time. They will soon learn you mean food and will come to eat a variety of foods.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. We are here for you and any questions you may have.
Thank you for adopting.

Thanks everyone, they ate all their veggies last night, but didn't eat pellets yet. They were also exploring this morning, but ran and hid as soon as we walked in. They have a hayloft, two hidies, two water dishes. I look forward to sharing my stories with everyone. I have enjoyed reading all of your stories so far. I have been on this site for about 4 weeks now even though I just got our piggies yesterday. I feel like an addict.

We are addicts!!!! Welcome to the great world of piggies!
