Greetings,
I am Nibles230, a new proud new guinea pig owner. I just got 2 new guinea pigs named Oreo and Snickerdoodle, they are females. They are 2 years and one month old. I got them a 2 story cage but they don't use the second story. I have had them since Labor Day. I just have one question. How do you pick-up a guinea pig the right way? Thanks, that is all.

Sincerely,
Nibles230

Hello Nibles, Welcome to the forum! Please have a look/read around. Lots of wonderful info on the care of GP's.
As to your question: Being GP's are prey animals their first reaction is to run you can take a cardboard box or a hidey that has one opening. Try to get them to run into the box and then lift it out. That way you are not chasing them all over the cage. You can try it with a towel too.
Once they get used to eating out of your hand, or coming up to the side of cage for food you can lift them out with your hand. Hope that helps.

Would love to see pictures of Oreo and Snickerdoodle! Love their names.

Hello Nibles230, and WELCOME ! :)

I can't wait to see some pictures too ! Here is a link on how to hold them/pick them up, below:

http://www.guinealynx.info/handling.html

While they are adjusting to their new cage, and new home environment, corralling them into a cozy or box is an excellent idea, one that I use myself all the time ! However, there will come a time, when you will need to pick them up and guinea lynx is a wonderful medical web site that we all turn to for great information. Again, welcome aboard !!

Oreo looks to be a short-haired American and Snickerdoodle is an American crested.

Hi & welcome Nibles230! Your piggies are adorable! I am a newbie owner, too, and I have found that the easiest way for me to pick up my piggies is to use a cuddle cup or cozy. My piggies (2 young females) love these, and they especially like to be picked up in their cozies. I think it makes them feel more secure and helps them get used to being picked up (especially my older piggy, Angelina, who wasn't held much as a baby). You can see our baby piggy Olivia being snuggled in her cozy by my daughter Sabrina. Good luck, and enjoy your piggies! :)
