Protecting against infection

We have been asked about a cleaning protocol that would prevent rabbits from contracting Myxomatosis or EC from their accommodation, for example in boarding or rescue establishments, and suggest the following:

Thoroughly clean the area to remove any scale or residue
Use Ark-Klens , which is a benzalkonium chloride disinfectant and as such it should be effective against EC and Myxi, to routinely disinfect the housing. Periodically use Virkon (as an inorganic peroxygen compound) to kill any other viruses

Note: Other benzalkonium chloride disinfectants and inorganic peroxygen compounds may be available, in addition to those named above.

Where can these be obtained? Any generic type names for these products?

These are UK products but you should be able to get equivalents in the US.

Ark-Klens is benzalkonium chloride. Virkon is a peroxide type disinfectant. If you're near any agricultural merchants, perhaps contact them for advice? Or a rabbit savvy vet of course.

I have heard on one forum of a product called Vanodine being used very successfully to keep rabbit housing free from infectious/contageous organisms

Thank you. I have an excellant vet. They are who took care of Jamie's mate when she got hurt.
I have not had any problems with infectious organisms. I just have Jaime now. I do have 3 guinea pigs but they are not in contact with Jamie.
