General Preparing for Babies.

I Just got done making my first C&C Cage for my lovely guinea pigs Leela and Nibbler. It is below.



However, when I purchased Leela from the pet store I did not at the time realize she was pregnant and now, after a vet visit I know for sure that she is. I am just curious if the cage is secure for her babies. The coroplast goes 6 inches up every side of the cage but I want to make sure the babies will not be able to escape.

No, they can get through the holes in those grids, and you'll have baby pigs running all over the house.

All you need to do to fix it is to extend the walls up to about 10 inches. You can do that very cheaply but not prettily by zip-tying cardboard to the grids. Or, if you've got or want to buy more coroplast, you can do it neatly but not cheaply by zip-tying more coroplast to the walls. You'll need to leave it there for several months until the babies are too big to escape through the holes or get their heads caught in them.

What I did was bought more grids and made another layer over the ones I had but moved over slightly so all the holes in the grids were now half the size. I hope that makes sense. It lookes alot nicer and was easier to see into the cage/set up.

Overlapping the grids is fine. Better, in fact, than raising the walls. But not everyone has extra grids and they can be hard to find, so I seldom think to recommend that.
