Hi :) I bought 2 guinea pigs a month ago and I think this one might be pregnant. What do you think? She's about 11 weeks old and her belly seems to have gotten bigger since I've had her. Shes's very pear shaped, her stomach is harder, she's drinking and eating a lot and has gained a lot of weight recently (about 250g the past few weeks). Shes eating the same as the other one but much bigger. If she is pregnant, how far along do you think she is?
Thanks

She does look pear shaped. It's not easy to tell how far a guinea pig is but around 6 weeks gestation you may be able to feel small movements. The pelvic bone will separate before she gives birth. If you have had her for a month, then she has up to 6 more weeks to go if she is pregnant. And welcome to the forum!

Here a picture of both of the guinea pigs, shes almost double the size of the other one lol. I agree its very difficult to tell. Got them from a pet store so I guess even her age might not be what we estimate. They said they quarantine them for 3 weeks before they're in the shop so worried that they and the two vets mis-sexed the other one :/

I imagine they were babies when you bought them. Were they both the same size when you first got them? You are worried that your black and white one is a male? If so, separate them until you know for sure.

Gestation is around 70 days. They usually don't get really big until closer to the end. Right now she looks like a healthy growing guinea pig.

There's a possibility that there's a problem with the other one. It looks a bit hunched in that photo.

We got them from a pet store and the black and white one was very ill with a uri when we got here which the vet told us stunted her growth; other than that she's just fluffy so shes not as hunched as she might appear in the photo.

Hopefully she's just a healthy growing guinea pig, we'll just take good care of her and keep an eye on her. If she gets any bigger we ll take her to a vet. Don't want to stress her out unnecessarily.

There's no need to take her to a vet, unless she's sick. If she's pregnant you'll know in time.

So you're sure the black and white one is a female? How did the vet treat her for the URI?

Honestly, she doesn't look good. Do you have another photo of her? How's her weigh gain?

She probably is yes as two vets had a look and said she was female (her name's Skye btw), it's just that she looks different to Daisy (the other one). We were given antibiotics (baytril) and an anti-inflammatory which we had to give her twice a day for just over a week. The vet then listened to her chest after the treatment and said that she sounded much better and since then she has gained about 50g (when she was ill she remained the same weight)

The Baytril probably had something to do with her growth being stunted. Baytril is not recommended for young guinea pigs. It's good she's gaining weight now.

They are both really cute I would check both genders yourself just to be sure. If you need any you can post a picture and we'll help you. Guineapiglynx has a page on it here's the link.

Thanks :) Is this image ok? It's so hard to tell because that bump at the top of the Y doesn't come out that much. As I said 2 vets think she's a girl. Are there any behavioral signs?

Idk it kinda looks like both but its hard to know for sure when their really young. Maybe someone else will be better help.

No not really you can't tell by just behavior. Because same gender mounting is not uncommon. Especially when they are figuring out the pecking order.

Skye just looks so different, there's not even the smallest chance of Daisy being a male.

She follows Daisy around but when she gets annoyed at Daisy sniffing her behind she ll spray pee lol. They rarely sleep together anymore, Daisy likes her space so they tend to have a bit of a squeak at each other when they want a certain house but never fight. Is this another sign of a pregnant guinea pig (dominating a certain house and not letting Skye stay with her, or just a dominance thing?) I've never seen

sorry that last bit was meant to say I've never seen Skye mounting Daisy or the other way around.

Honestly I've never dealt with pregnant pigs so as far as pregnant guinea pig behavior I'm no help. I just said same sex mounting is common because when most newbies see that they think oh maybe one is a male. Sorry I miss understood :) You won't always see it not all pigs do it and its mostly done during introductions. But since you got them together they probably won't do it.

We had a rabbit once that did it to our guinea pig when I was a child (they were just kept in a run while we cleaned them out - I know theyre not good pets to have living together) I was confused by the behaviour back then lol.

So there's not really any signs that she's a he other than how she looks, surprised she is quite feisty back though being so small, figured Daisy would just be the dominant one.

Your guinea pig does look like she could be pregnant but you usually can't tell by looking so hopefully she's not, she's so young. The picture you put up looks like a girl to me. Also you said she sprays the other with pee and I don't think male piggies do that. Maybe someone who knows for sure on the pee spraying can chime in?

I've never noticed pee spraying with my boys so I agree that its a girl thing.

When my two girls get "mounty" during their cycles they occassionally spray urine at each other. I have to wipe down the radiator on a regular basis as it escapes from their cage. The woes of being a piggie mum

Pretty sure I can feel and see kicking now :/ and shes resting a lot more and becoming a bit moody lol. How many weeks would this mean she is? She's not as big as some guinea pigs I've seen but she's getting there. Kind of excited but very nervous
