6_6; i know not many of you have had pregnant piggies besides some pregnant rescues but im all paranoid so i thought id try asking here...

I was reaching the Guinea Lynx page about breeding, and then i read just about every link and all the links on Cavy spirit and around but i still found no explanantion of:

If you witness any of the signs listed below, get the sow to a cavy knowledgeable vet immediately.
Sow smelling like nail polish remover, or acetone. This can occur from 2 weeks before until 2 weeks after the birth.

What is the smell suggestive to? And has anyone here ever encountered it before? o_o
It makes me nervous. I dont think Kois having that smell but ever since i read that bit i go *sniff sniff sniff* all around the cage and the pigs and the room constantly.

/=_=\ nan des ka?! (what is it?!)

I have had many pregnant guinea pigs and as far as I have known not one has ever smelt like that. I can't think what might cause that kind of smell unless the guinea pig was really very sick and then you would probably notice that. A sick and pregnant guinea pig is not happy.

Sorry I wasn't much help.

If your cavy starts to smell like nail polish take her to the vet imidiatly"sp". I would suggest posting it on (broken link removed).

Oos I meant this website.

o_<; the way everyone talks so positively about breeding there is awful...

Koi dosent have the smell. I just want to know what it means. because its the only thing ive read about so far that dosent tell you why or what it means.

Okay I did a bit of research and it means that (well this is the case in humans so possibly not the case for guinea pigs) there is a likelyhood of the guinea pig going into a diabetic coma.

Sorry Quiet Things but your way wrong there. In humans it can mean that but not in cavies. If a pregnant cavy smells like "nail polish remover" or acetone it means they have pregnancy toxemia and need to see a vet immediately or they can die.

Hey thanks for clearing that up, Sorry for the wrong information! I should do more research before I post stuff. Sorry again.

I just read that thread. I am so glad that I have never had to go through that, it would be heartbreaking. Poor Wendi.
