I recently got a guinea pig from a pet store (Hershey's) and since then she's put on some weight. I don't know if it's because she's growing or if she's pregnant (the pet store doesn't know her age, but I think she's 8-12 months). I don't know if she was with a boy or not. She doesn't let me pick her up, unlike her cage mate, which is a girl (Reese's). And lately she's been spending a lot of time in her house, only coming out to eat and drink usually. Her cage mate was nipping at her yesterday, which is new, and now they're constantly blocking each other and stuff like that. I'm not sure if she has bumps on her side, or if she's just fat. I think I might've felt something in one of her sides, but I'm not sure.

1. What should a pregnant guinea pig's stomach feel like?
2. Will the pregnant guinea pig or their cage mate change behavior?

Will try to post pictures later.

when my piggy was pregnant she did begin to put on some weight and would nip if you touched her side. Also pregnant pigs drink a lot. also when Hermione was pregnant her sides felt firm and you could feel something in her tummy area. if she starts to look like a pear like shape then she is most likely pregnant.

I hope this helps!!!!! :]

My piggy nips me or kicks my fingers away. And I recently bought some liquid orange drops to put into my piggy's water, so she just started drinking it again because I guess it took her a while to get used to it.
But when do guinea pigs usually become pear-shaped?

She's probably not 8-12 months, pet stores usually sell their pigs when they're much younger than that, but if she is and she IS pregnant, she could run into some problems as the pelvic bones stiffen after about 8 months making it harder for the pups to get out. In this case she will probably need a c-section. She probably was with males as petstores are notorious for missexing pigs, are you SURE Reeses is a girl? http://www.guinealynx.info/sexing.html
As she probably will be quite young, the weight gain most likely is just her growing.

It's probably too early to tell if she definitely is pregnant or not, guinea pigs don't really show until quite late on. But not wanting to be picked up is just something all guinea pigs do (they're prey animals) and it doesn't mean she's pregnant. It's also very difficult to tell from photos, all pigs look different in different stages of pregnancy.
The easiest way to find out if she is pregnant or not is to take her to the vet. Do you have a good cavy-savvy vet? Also significant weight gain can be a sign of pregnancy, it's advised to weigh pigs regularly (kitchen scale) anyway as weight loss can mean your pig is ill.

How big is their cage? The nipping/blocking could be dominance, or it could be a lack of space.

Anyway, sorry for the very long-winded response! Guinea Lynx is a very useful site for all things piggy: http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction.html
If she is pregnant: http://www.guinealynx.info/labor.html http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction_faq.html

Also, please don't put drops/vitamin C in the water: https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...drops-in-Water-or-can-I-put-Tang-in-the-water

No, you're not supposed to put anything in the water. I mentioned that in my above post, but you probably didn't notice because its so long! :)

I never read anywhere that you Vitamin C drops were bad in water, but thanks for telling me. And Reese's is a girl, I checked myself to make sure. Their cage is the normal size, I suppose. I'm planning on making a C&C cage soon, though. And as for taking them to the vet, I'm researching for the best vet in the area, but I probably won't be able to take the guinea pigs in for an exam until early August.

You can definitely put vitamin C in the water IF it is going to be given immediately by syringe. Otherwise, the vitamin C starts degrading immediately upon being put into water, and a short time later, is totally useless. So it's a no-go in water bottles.
