My guinea pig just had somethings stroke like, but hasnt really had any of the after symptoms. I heard two my boys teeth chattering and assumed they were nust annoying each other. One was chattering really really loudly so I went into the pig room. He (4.5 years old) sat in a spot and suddenly started like tweaking. One of his eyes kept opening and closing and he kept partially falling on his side. He continued teeth chattering really loudly the entire time, and kept trying to turn himself, but was only using one of his hind legs to do so, it almost looked like he was hopping in a circle. After a minute or two, he stopped. After he laid there puffed up for a minute or so and didnt react to anything happening around him, like he normally does. His cage mate walked up to him and accidentally hit his butt, which normally makes him turn around and yell at him, but he didn’t make a noise. He also didn’t react to treat bags rattling. After that though, he's acted totally normal like nothing happened, the only difference is his one eye looks slightly different than normal. There isnt a head tilt or anything. Was that a stroke or what happened?

Having almost no experience with strokes, I'm afraid I have little to offer. Your description is certainly vivid and sounds like a stroke. Or, it could be a seizure. For now, I would keep an eye on him and any abnormal behavior. If it happens again, then I would encourage a Vet visit.😊

See if you can find anything pertinent at guinealynx.com.

thank you so much. we were supposed to take one of my boars into the vet tomorrow, but our vet ended up giving us a spot last minute last week. If he is acting different in the morning, or his eye looks worse, we’re hoping that spot will still be open for us to take him in.
