We acquired a new female guinea pig on Nov. 7. She was estimated to be approx. 2 months of age. I know nothing of her past. She is gaining weight much quicker then our other pigs did. I've been tracking her weight as follows:
Nov. 8/15 - 464g
Nov. 12/15 - 494g
Nov. 25/15 - 624g
Dec. 4/15 - 694g
Dec. 6/15 - 723g

To look at her I feel like she is pregnant. Is it possible for a guinea pig to gain so much weight and not be pregnant? She has been fairly active so I feel like she can't just be fat. I assume we will know very soon if she is indeed pregnant. If she is should I be moving her? She currently lives in a herd with 2 other females and a neutered male.

Thank you.

I checked that out already. We have a 2x6 cage with a 2x2 loft that they seem to spend most of their time in. Unfortunately we can't expand that right now but I do have a second cage if necessary. I'm fairly certain I felt some movement in her belly tonight.

I think I'd leave them together and then see how they do once the pups are born. If there are only one or two, they may be ok. But if there's a large litter, you may have to separate them somehow.

Thank you. That's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm hoping it works out so we can keep the babies. My hope is to keep any girls in our herd and boys in the second cage. We will be able to expand the large cage but not until we move in the spring so hopefully it works out fine :)

My little girl is definitely pregnant. Someone suggested that it might be a good idea to remove my boar (neutered) from the cage before she delivers. Obviously there is no concern about another pregnancy but the thought was he may still bother mama when she goes into heat. Thoughts on that? I have the room to move him if necessary but I'd rather not disrupt the herd if it's not really necessary.

I'd leave him there, and watch what happens after she gives birth. If he goes nuts over her, you can remove him then.
