tomorrow is when i find out exactly what is up with my pigs, however i'm strongly leaning towards fungal infection. (pictures at the end of this post)
after i take them to the vet i plan on completely sanitizing the cage. i will wash every grid and every connector by soaking them in bleach/water then hand washing to get any excess bleach off of the material.
i know i can soak the towels in a mixture of water/bleach then wash the towels in the washing machine, however, how can i wash the fleece? i'm afraid the bleach will destroy the fabric. is there a way to safely do this without ruining fleece?
i'm currently bleaching their kennel out this very moment so they will have something clean to sleep in while i sanitize the cage.
i threw away all of their wooden huts. the only wooden thing remaining is the flat, round wooden "plate" i keep their hay on.
i'll have to cut down their fleece forests tomorrow. i'm sure the fleece is contaminated seeing as both pigs run through them frequently.
do you guys have any other tips on sanitation now and for the future?
someone told me to wash their fleece and towels with a tiny bit of bleach each week just to help kill all of the 'bad stuff.'
i'm afraid if i weekly wash the fabrics with bleach, it'll eventually give off some bleach-y odor or irritate the pigs' feet or cause breathing problems.
lastly, each pig is eating and drinking normally. they don't appear lethargic either. i haven't touched them because i fear causing them any discomfort and i don't want to spread it anywhere else. (despite not touching them, i wash my hands after giving them food or touching anything in the cage)
elliot's ear spot is relatively the same size as when i discovered it.
obcy had just a little hair loss under the corner of her eye on the lower lid. now she has lost more fur surrounding the corner of the eye. my boyfriend didn't see what i saw yesterday, but today i told him to look and he was shocked and definitely noticed hair loss.
