Hi again!

My piggies are on the other side of my kitchen bench and love it but the hubby informed me 2nite he wants them to go outside as they smell.
I cant smell it... i can smell the shavings but nothing else.

How can i limit the pong so they dont have to go back into the garage?

I have a 7.5ft by 2.5ft grids.cornflute cage like the ones on here.
Theres only 2 piggies in it.
I told hubbs that the one who was acting randy may be ommitting a
smell but i was just making it up lol , I said it would probally fix itself.
I only cleaned the cage yesty so it cant be that yet can it?

I've just got use to having them around all the time so dont want
to send them back to the garage, even though its warm ,, its too dark which is why i wanted them inside.

Any advice would be wonderful.

I dont know what kind of bedding you are using. When I got my piggies I used Pine shavings. I keep them in my bedroom and I noticed a smell that I did not care for. My husband made remarks that the cage stinks. Was not a bad smell, or a stinky kind of smell. I realized it was the shavings that smelled. The shavings themselves had an aroma about them that I didnt like. Of course someone else would say the cage smells or the piggies stink, but it was the shavings themselves which was clean that smelled. I changed to Aspen, what a difference. No smell whatsoever. So maybe its the bedding your using.

I'd answer the question but what the heck is "pong?"

try fleece. If you have time to either shake off the poop or use ahand vac in the morning and before bed there is virtually no smeell , well to me.

pong = unpleasant smell

Maybe your hubby doesn't like the smell of the bedding? Or if it's just the pigs, maybe you can try switching to another bedding, to see if that masks the smell better.

no message here.

Thanks, it is wood shavings im using.
I considered carpeting but ive read that it can smell worse so im not sure.
I do think its the shavings he's smelling as the cage was pretty clean!
Sorry, Pong = smelly lol.

Would the droppings smell because i didnt think they really did.. i thought the urine would be more likely ....i'll clean it out again today and see what he says.
What is Aspen? Is it like cardboard kitty litter? I've never seen it here. (Australia)

How deep do you guys put your shavings? Maybe i didnt put enough..2 inch deep?
Sorry for all the questions.

What sort of wood shavings. Absolutely NO cedar or pine.

I know its not cedar, i'll have to have a look at the packaging.
Im pretty sure it dosent say pine on it...

Ok it dosent say pine.

It says
Hisorb woodshavings
Premium quality
dust extracted and screened for animal bedding

www.ecw.com.au

I just went to the website and i think it is pine!
It dosent say anything on the packaging about being pine.

I checked the website and it is kiln-dried pine. So it's pine that is OK to use. Aspen is a wood shaving that looks like pine but is much safer as it is very non-strong smelling. I really like aspen but it gets annoying on carpet because it gets everywhere and so you are vacuuming alot. Do you have carefresh in australia? You could try that it really is supposed to be the best but a bit more expensive. I find it strange that the bag of bedding doesn't say whta kind of wood it is so it makes me not positive that it is kiln-dried pine, it could be normal pine that is bad for piggies.

No it really dosent, the only other infomation it says on the bag is the manufacturer's address etc.

So its definatly kiln dried, is that safe? Im guessing thats what smells then.

It should be safe, but some companies do lie about these types of things. What does it smell like? Is it a strong smell? If it is, it is the pine you are smelling.

I dont think its that strong but hubby does.
Maybe im just use to it.

He could also have a sensitive nose, as I do.
I would buy new bedding. Though it is expensive, carefresh is (in my opinion), smell-free and I can't smell a thing whenever I smell carefresh. Or you can try aspen.
Just really do not put the pigs outside.
Better yet, put your hubby outside! XD J/k.

I was using pine and believe me it smells. I changed to aspen, no problem here. Its great.

Thanks RubyPiggie2

Not bad for my 1st one, i like it.
