I jut got back from tennic practice. It's about 85 degrees here, and the sun is scorching. Before practice, I put sunblock on my body, especially my face. After practice everyone was noticing how red my face was. I didn't think I had a sunburn, then I looked in the mirror, MY FACE IS LIKE A TOMATO. It's horrible!

I'm not going to school like this tomorrow. My face burns bad, and I don't have any aloe lotion. Is there anything I can do to help the redness go away faster?

Do you think a cold shower on my face would help?

A cold shower would just lower your body temperature and cool you off. I'd suggest getting some Aloe ASAP.
I did a search and found a website with various suggestions:
(broken link removed)

I hope this helps and good luck with the sunburn- I know how much it sucks to get one!

Thank you so much Kat. Some of those remidies are crazy sounding. Heh. Putting mustard on your face? I don't know about that.

LOL....Yeah, I wasn't sure either. But aside from telling you to go to the nearest drugstore for some aloe lotion I had NO IDEA. So hopefully something on there will help you out. :)

Vitamin E oil will help. Washing your face with cold Milk (yes from a cow) may also give some relief. To make yourself more comfortable lie a cool washcloth on your face. Obviously stay out of the sun and keep your face moisturized. Do try to get Aloe.

Actually, I heard using an oil won't help - it'll just trap heat in and keep it burning longer. The pain is from skin cells dying and heat being trapped beneath your skin, still burning you.

I think.

I'd just use pure aloe gel. It feels soooooooo good and helps. After the pain goes away, Vitamin E oil will help.

Take some pain relief. Naproxen (yes, I know) works best for me. Try two tabs of IB or Tylenol and that should help.

Ok have to post on this one.. It might sound weird but yes mustard is one of the best home remedies out there. I have a friend who burned her arm badly. She applied mustard to it before I took her to the hospital. What would of turn out to be 2nd and 3rd degree burns turned out to be minor 2nd only. There is something in the mustard that pulls the heat out of your skin. It really works better then aloe. I use it often on my kids sun burns. This way they dont blister and are over it in less then a day. :) good luck

Cool Trixie...I'll have to remember that one!

In general this is true oil is not good for burns (like the old butter wive's tale)but I have a Vit E oil that also contains Aloe and Retinol it is a wonder oil. I have put it on burns I've gotten from the stove and had what should have been a blistered burn feeling and looking better within hours. I put some on my tenent who got a nasty burn from their car muffler and he was amazed at the results. Other's I've treated with it had similar reactions.

My oil is made by Natural Solutions...I got it at a GNC years ago...I hope they still make it I'm almost out.

I'm sure it is a mix of the Aloe and E that does the wonder healing but if all one has is the Vit E, and since it only seems to come in oil form, I figured it would help. Maybe I'm wrong...maybe I just got a batch of magic oil <grin>

My mum once put a vinigar (sp?) mix on me but I cannot remember what was in it besides the vinigar. It stunk awful but it did soothe it a bit. Definitly moisturise, do that regularly.

Buttermilk helps, oddly enough.
