I was just having a bit of cuddle time with my boys when I noticed that Taiko (my black avatar silkie) had some dried crusties around his mouth. There was a bit lining the fur right under his bottom lip, and some on his chin. They were white in color under his lip and colorless under his chin. It almost felt like he had gotten white glue on his fur! His teeth look fine to me, both incisors and molars, and I just saw him eating lettuce, hay and pellets when I put him back in his cage. He's otherwise acting normally, but this just seems wierd. I couldn't find this specific symptom listed under anything other than drooling, which it doesn't seem to be. I'm worried because my vet is closed on sundays after 2, and so I won't be able to get in touch with him until tomorrow.
The only thing I can think of is that as a treat I sometimes give them a few small pieces of crusty bread to much on, and last night was one of these occasions. Although this doesn't make much sense, is it possible that he was eating the bread, went for a drink, and drooled on his chin leaving this residue? (sounds foolish, but since he has NO other symptoms and his teeth are fine, I'm trying to figure out any possible reason for this.)
Has anyone seen this before and know what it could be caused by?
