My older guinea pig recently died so we got a new one. We got another male. It is younger then the other male I have. They got along at first (sniffing cheeks). But now my longer resident guinea pig is making wierd noises. I read somewhere it was called "rumbling". I thought this was a mating call or something. Is my younger guinea pig really a"she" and not a "he".

Where did you get the new 'male'? Did you make sure to see the staff sex him? Often times the rumbling noises are just a show of dominance, it's called 'rumblestrutting'. For wonderful information on cavy introductions, read cavyspirit.com social life article.

Yea, it's rumblestrutting and a show of dominance. It is not gender specific! My three girls do it.

Okay, Thanks. Yes the staff did sex him. Unfortunately we got him from a pet store. We live in the middle of nowhere. Our local SPCA usually only has cats and dogs (and its 45 minutes away).
