Hi. I could really appreciate some help here. I have 2 female pigs that live in a 5x2 c&c cage. Until recently i was staying at my mums and the piggies stayed in the spare room. I have just moved to a tiny flat and i have no room to keep them indoors. My loft is converted but it is FAR too stuffy. My only other option is to keep them in a shed. I am NOT very happy with this but i feel i have no other option. It is big (8'x6') with a window (with shutter), 2 vents and a locking door, placed in an area that is in the shade with no direct sunlight. They will be on a table, not directly on the floor. I stay in the UK. What other adaptations do i need to make to this shed to make it suitable for my babies?? They are still at my mums and i miss them so much (even tho i visit daily!). Any ideas much appreciated.

I don't know. I read on here that sheds are horrible because in the heat no matter how ventilated, they can reach 100 degrees or more. Are you sure you can't build a smaller cage? Is the shed heated for the winter? Another thing you could do is down-size your cage to a 2x4 in an L shape and put it in a corner. Putting pigs outside isn't reccomended. If you have to squish a narrow cage in you can build a straight 1x8. These are all C&C cages. Do you have a petstore cage or a C&C cage?

You can also make a 3X3 with a loft for two girls. This works well for lazy pigs and pigs who get along well.

You can also put two sows in a 2x3 or 2x4. I would at least go with a 2x4 if you can. I know that's downsizing them but it's for space issues. What do you mean by "stuffy"?

I personaly wouldnt put them in the shed, even if its well ventelated. It would feel to me like the guinea pigs would be disconected from the house hold. Like having a pet in the back yard as apposed to having a pet in the house as a member of the family. Sounds a bit odd maybe, but thats my feeling. I would try to down size, or see if you can rearrange things in the house to make more room. I never thought I could fit a 2x3 cage in my small room untill I moved my desk to the other side of the wall, which gave me just enough space. Its worth a try.

Definitely do not put them in the shed. Here in the UK the temperature fluctuations are so great that it could kill them. The temperature could easily reach over 30C on even the cooler summer's day. It would be like a dog in a hot car. They would also be more susceptible to respiratory infections because of the drafts they would get.

I agree with what Ly said. My two sows live happily in a 2x4 with room to spare. You could also make a 2x3 with a second level.

I keep my three boys in the shed.. they get on fine with it. However my boys were not orginally indoor piggies so they were used to the weather already.

I do not reccomend it and if I could have them indoors I would. Try making some more space and move some stuff around a bit.

Stuffy: really short of air and warm.

Thanks for all your help guys. I have thought of a hundered options for indoors. There is just no room, even if i were to downsize. I'll have another look.

Why don't you just stick the GP's in the living room or in a bedroom, I bet guests will love to see them! LOL
:)

my friend put her GP outsid ein a shed and it died cuz the heat =[
