No that's not what I was getting at for years rats and mice were bred as feeders. As for guinea pigs and rabbits its just unheard of. At least I've never heard of someone feeding a snake a guinea pig. I had a neighbor who had a snake and she only fed him mice. Although I don't agree with feeding them live and that's also one of the reasons I wouldn't have a snake.

Seriously!! Wtf.
The discussion is whether it is okay to use one species of animal or another. Not one race over another. Good gravy.

And don't get me started on keeping snakes as pets.

Guinea pigs and rabbits have been bred as feeders for just as long as rats and mice have been.

Well ones persons knowledge can differ from another person's knowledge sorry. I've just never heard of someone feeding a snake guinea pigs or rabbits.

Edit: In all 20 years on this earth I've had 1 neighbor that had a snake. And I don't have many snake fans in my family. The only reptile someone in my family has had were lizards. My cousin had an iguana and my best friends brother had a bearded dragon. Like I said people in my family who think pet its something furry.

No I wasn't being mean! lol Just sharing information. Guinea pigs and rabbits are commonly bred as feeders. Not just for snakes but other carnivores as well. I see people asking for them and selling them all the time on Craigslist for people's sled dogs, wolves, or even sometimes just for their regular dogs. (I'm assuming they're making their own raw dog food or something but who knows.)

And we would only feed them people food on special occasions or as a treat because we never wanted them to be hooked on people food. Like my moms Chihuahua Sandy she wouldn't eat anything but people food. Mom used to feed her dog food but my grandmother had to dog sit her and fed her people food. And ever since then she would never touch dog food.

Well it is what it is. Heck, I lived in Peru for a while when I was 19 in college, and my host family had an entire herd of cuy free range in their back yard. They couldn't wrap their heads around my having a pet piggie back in the US.
What these people are doing may not be illegal, but it still goes against the policies of this forum and CL for breeding.

I personally don't agree with keeping snakes as pets but that's another can of worms entirely.

Raw diets are actually proven to be healthier for both dogs and cats. Most kibble diets have corn and soy and other things in them that are at best nutrionless fillers and at worse can be toxic and cause severe allergies.

In some countries people will eat things that we would never even think about eating. Like if you search guinea pig on Google you will find pictures of cooked guinea pigs. Which is disgusting I can't even look at them. So when I search guinea pigs I'm real careful on how I word it. Because I don't want to risk see that.

Agree with Melynda. Snakes are nowhere near being domesticated even if born in captivity. They need to be out where they can roam and stretch out. I can't stand snakes and spiders but I still can have a heart for them for they are living creatures too and deserve to be in their natural habitat. There then they can get there prey. A spider in a small jar. Really? I'm sure he's digging that. That's one example of having a "cool" pet because you have something that can bite and kill you. I have a hard time wrapping my head around keeping an animal that must eat another LIVE animal. Set those guys free to forage for themselves. Don't sentence a poor soul yourself whether it's a small mouse or larger animal. I have no problem knowing that animals in the wild need to eat others, but in your home at your hands, no can do.

Well either way we hardly ever gave our dogs or cats people food. My dogs and cats were only given dog or cat food. It also depends on the brand. Like blue buffalo dog food has real meat in it but its chicken not rabbit or guinea pig.

Oh like the president is trying to pass a law where it's okay to sell horse meat on the market. Because he says if other countries can eat it why can't the people in the U.S.

Well, you're easily offended. The point made was about sub-species. No species is more important than another.

And really, how ignorant can you possibly be???
Dogs are carnivores! They deserve to be fed correctly.

No we weren't ignorant they got fed meat just not every meal. And besides you have to remember that was years ago there is so much more information out there. I haven't had a dog in over 8 years.

And we didn't have 24/7 access to a computer or internet so its not like we could just search for a dogs proper diet. And you know how pet stores are most of what they told us was probably wrong.

Really? Then look at how cancer is running rampant in our dogs and cats. Ever wonder why? Read this little article: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/cancer-causing-aflatoxins-found-in-dog-foods/
Educate yourself like you did for your guinea pigs.

And it has been proven in nearly every dog and cat to date that the raw diet is 10x better than kibbles. My pug was put on every single kibble under the sun. From the cheapest of the cheap to the highest quality and she STILL chewed and itched herself raw. Put her on raw and less than a week later, she was a totally different dog. Even dogs who were diagnosed with cancer were found to be cancer free after 1 year on the raw diet.
