Hi all,

My friend settled her piggies at my place a couple weeks ago and I noticed this weird color pees recently. I only have male piggies before and I never see peeing in this color. Did some research and it said pinkish color urine might be a result of pigment in food. I fed those redleaf lettuce, baby spanish and sometimes carrots as treats so I guess it might be it. But after I switch to lettuce and bell pepper and kale, I still see this color in her urine.
I fed her urinary health support treats with cranberry extracts tonight and I'm going to call vet tmr to see if we can bring her to vet asap. I wonder if I should get some unsweeten cranberry juice for her tmr? for now I don't see a huge weight change (her weight at my place first day is about 1025 and today I weighed her she is 1049) Should I step in with handfeedings before I take her to vet or should I wait until there's a significant weight loss?

Many thanks in advance,
Lia

The weights you gave indicate that she hasn't lost any weight, so I wouldn't bother with assist feeding if she's eating on her own and the only issue is the different colored urine.

Don's handfeed unless she's not eating.

Cranberry juice won't help. It acidifies the urine, but guinea pig urine is naturally basic, unlike human urine. You'd have to feed a ton of cranberries to acidify guinea pig urine.

The foods you're feeding her won't color her urine, so that's not it. It's probably either a URI or stones. Watch her carefully and see if you see her hunching her back to pee, or making any sounds of pain when she's pooping. And if it still persists on Monday, see an exotic vet.

I have called vet and we'll take her to vet this thurday. I noticed there are red spots on her beddings when I first got her but I thought it's food pigment. I asked her owner and she said the redness started last year in September so it has been a while...hopefully it's just UTI...
