I took my pig out for playtime and saw that she peed a pinkish color. She was with another pig and I separated them to see which one it was. She is being her happy jolly self and running around and I did not notice her squeaking when peeing.

Please help to let me know if she is ok, is this a uti?

Will she be ok until I can speak with my vet tomorrow morning?

Some guinea pigs have an orange tinge to their urine but if it's pink, there's blood in the urine. I'd get her into the vet tomorrow. She might be developing a UTI and if you treat it early, she might not have a lot of discomfort. Urinary tract infections are painful.

thanks pinky, I will bring her to the vet 1st thing tomorrow. Is there anything I could do to make her more comfortable even though she is not showing any signs of pain?

No. Metacam is prescribed by a vet.

Something you can use to make the wee less acidic is 'Ural'
It makes your piggy more comfortable, I did that when Sugar had a UTI while she was taking her medications.

Cazzacoconut, guinea pig urine isn't acidic anyway, so no need to make it less acidic. Most, if not all, herbivores have basic urine.

It looks like her pee has gone back to normal color/yellow Cookiesick /clear. Should I still take her to the vet, could this still be an issue?

I'm still planning on it at the moment, have an appointment for this afternoon

Actually, it looks pretty normal to me. It's nothing I'd rush off to a vet for, although I'd certainly keep a close eye on it. Guinea pig urine dries yellowish/orangeish/brownish anyway.

It was very pinkish/light red last night, every time she went while I had her out, I didn't get any pictures but it looked bad. I agree today looks much better, I just wonder if it is possible she may still have a UTI even if now she is not showing symptoms...

I no expert, by any means, but just speaking from experience, I'd take her to the vet, anyways... My older girl would pee pinkish/light red, once or twice, and then it'd go back to normal, but she ended up having a bad UTI, which ended up causing Stasis... Much more expensive to treat, than just a simple UTI. I'd take her in anyways, just to be sure...

Is it posible that it could be from eating strawberries? I gave her a small piece of strawberry the day before she was peeing pinkish color. I've never given her red foods before so I was almost concluding that was what it was. All day yesterday she was peeing normal except for one more spot which was a bright red color. I am now wondering if that red spot could be from the cranberry piece I gave her the night before.

Now I am wondering how long does it take for food to affect the pee? Could it be possible that it was just the strawberries and cranberry?
I'm still observing her... to determine whether or not to take her to the vet

I've never had their urine change colour, from food. If it was bright red, I'd take her to the vet right away... It's better to pay for an exam, and her be alright, than to lose her to something like stasis, because you thought she was okay. Pigs don't show illness, until they're very sick...

Strawberries don't change the urine color, and I'm pretty sure cranberries don't. Red Swiss chard or beets do, though.

If a pig has a stone or sludge she can have intermittent blood in the urine. If you decide to wait and watch, take her in right away if it's pink again. Also, bladder stones can cause a pig to have pain while pooping. If she hunches up and cries when pooping, definitely take her in. Some females are able to pass bladder stones on their own, but some need to be removed.

Thanks, her urine has continues to be normal looking and she is not making any noises or looking like she is in pain. I'm still watching her very closely...

My rats wee goes a pinkish colour whenever I feed her tomato otherwise is is always yellow. Some of my piggies pee is a pinkish/brownish usually but I think it is just their diet (they do get tomato every day) and they are otherwise healthy active and never look in discomfort when going.

I haven't noticed tomato changing the color of a guinea pig's urine.
