pigs and hamsters

Im thinking of getting a hamster, I was just wondering if guinea pigs could get sick from hamsters,or vice-versa?

Are you keeping them in the same cage? Please do not if you are. And if you aren't, I doubt it could possibly get sick if you washed your hands after holding and snuggling him, etc.

No of course not, i dont even have it yet i know that mixing species isnt a good idea. Do you think putting the hamster cage on top of the pigs cage would disturb them?

I've seen it in a few pictures. I highly doubt that the hampster would be loud enough to 'disturb' them. Are your guinea pigs already used to noise?

I think most diseases/bacterias/viruses are all specific to that animal. I don't believe that a hamster can catch a guinea pigs cold or vice versa.

I am pretty sure I read that on the guinealynx forums somewhere.

But its a good idea anyway to always wash your hands between handling the piggers and hamsters.

I have both piggies and hamsters and fortunately none of my animals have been sick.

Yes, but sometimes a species can pass diseases not harmful to them to other species that can be harmed by it. If guinea pigs and rabbits live together, the rabbit may pass on Pasturella Bacteria to the guinea pig, which is unharmful to rabbits, but deadly to guinea pigs.

they wont be in the cage , but the hamster cage would be ontop atached to save grids!
