In May/June my friend wants me to pigsit while she goes on a trip. She has a mom and a daughter, I have the daughter's brother and sister from the mom's litter. When she brings her piggies over, do they need to be in their own cage? or is it OK if I put them in with my girl for the week or so when she's gone? I think my Cinnamon would love having the other girls with her for the time being but I don't want to traumatize them when they get separated and the other two go home... Any advice? Thanks!!

I would say Keep them in their own cage. It would not be fair to let them bond and then take her friend away. I am sure others would agree with me.

Yes @boofp i think it would be sweet that they had new friends but it would be to hard on them to take them away again.

Unless the brother is neutered, there is absolutely no reason for them to be allowed to interact, much less be in the same cage.

The brother (Lightning) is not fixed yet - he's not old enough, but he has his own separate cage, as you can see in the pic. He is on top and she's on the bottom. Excuse Lightning, he's cleaning himself and eating his special poop...

I was trying to avoid having 3 cages in my entry way because I don't exactly have the space do to my heating system but I don't want to traumatize the girls by putting them together and then separating them again so I guess they'll all have to be separate when I piggysit. I think I can put a table in my basement so they avoid the draft of the heater.

@boofp thats what i was trying to say, i have the same thoughts as you. Sorry if it was confusing :eek:ptimist:

I agree with the others, keep them separate.

By the way, your cage looks fantastic!

One more question?! My friend uses disposable bedding for her GPs. I'd rather not clean up the mess because I may have to put her GP's cage in my kitchen if there isnt enough space in my entry way for the 3rd cage. Is it ok to put a fleece liner in their cage for the weeks I'm watching them and then let them go back to the disposable bedding? (I'm going to ask my friend if she's OK with this before I do it - I just wanted opinions of "experts")

I may just try to talk my friend into using fleece liners between now and then too...

That should be fine as long as the owner knows you are doing it i don't see why it would be a problem :)

I often keep the pigs I am pigsitting on fleece. So far it's been fine with everyone, people and pigs alike!
