Since we adopted Renee as company for Offie, and found out a few weeks later that we had also accidentally adopted baby George as well, we have been inundated with piggy poo. With the three of them, and the rabbit, (but she isn't as productive anyway and has been known to get confused and eat piggy poo instead of pellets, but she is blind...) it is everywhere, and sitting out on what's left of the lawn is less than pleasant. Heavy rain hasn't shifted it, and when we mow the lawn (fairly pointless exercise, but it keeps the husband happy!) they ping all over the place!

Does anyone have any ideas how we can
a) encourage the poos to break down faster
b) stop the little sweeties pooing (maybe a nappy?)
c) find a use for the poo?

Use the poo for fertilizer. There is no way to reduce the amount of poo's a piggie produces.

Weasel keeps her cavies outside. The only way I see about solving this is to bring them inside.

weasal, I'm starting to get the same problem. My whole garden is filthy with pig poo, and even though it did rain earlier on this week, the poo is still there! You can't even walk down the garden without getting some stuck on your feet or shoes.

Well, you definately can't put nappies on them!

I did see a post about clothes for pigs and wondered about nappies - but then you'd have to change them, and right now I'm at the happy stage in my life when my son is too old for nappies, and my mum is too young (just!), so I don't fancy having four furry bottoms to change!

Ly&Pigs- it is the last thing we need! Our house and garden are quite new, and are built on the site of a former farm muck heap. Last year we had tiny plants in our flower beds and this year we have a total jungle! We pruned back to a sensible size, and it filled the back of my car, and I drive a Saab estate!

So, if there aren't any import restrictions, anyone want some fertiliser? I'm sure Piglet and I can make up a bulk order! (Piglet - I've worked out how to collect it - use a new Hoover bag and hoover the grass when it's dry - I bet they all just ping up!. Maybe better do it when there's no-one else around, other wise the men in white coats might be coming round!)

Slap - I may not have mentioned, but they are not permanently outside - only when the weather is good enough, but that is most of the year. When it rains they are in their hutch, and tend to "go" in one corner so it's easy too poop-scoop, but it seems ridiculous going out and picking grass when they can forage it fresh for themselves, so they are out as much as possible. Also we have a cat who sits with his nose up against the indoor cage and just howls at them - they all tease him (indoors and out) because they know his paw won't fit through the grid, but they can stroke his paw with their noses. It's practically cat-cruelty!

I keep threatening to cork them if they don't stop pooing (I'm kidding, I'm kidding!).

I have the same problem. Every time I put my pigs out for a munch of grass there is poo there from days/weeks ago.

Maybe just use a dustpan and brush to clear it up every couple of days? Its great for your garden by the way, so if you do brush it up be sure to put it in a flowerbed.

Nice idea, carrotflavour, but I'm getting to fork-lift truck size, not just a dustpan and brush!
Did catch the cat eating some....
