Piggy might have mites

I just got my first pig about a month and a half ago.since then he lost a little hair behind each of his ears. he has little dandruff like things in the bald spot (not to many of them manybe 4-5 in each) and he has a scab on his ear. if this is mites, is there any way to treat them at home? I gave him a bath today, but was wondering if there was anything else I should do for him.

take him to the vets or get him some mite spray. Frontline is a good Flea and mite killer , you need to get it fromthe vets.

Yes you can easily treat him at home topically (on skin) with Ivermectin. Ivermectin can be purchased at a feed store, or any place that carries stuff for livestock (cows, horses, etc) you can also order it online from vet supply places. You will need to get 1% Ivermectin. A bath will not treat or get rid of any mites. Only Ivermectin will. I would advise you to treat the pigger topically at home. Instead of orally, topically is much much easier.

Oh and from what I have learned- Advantage (dog/cat flea and tick killer) and Frontline (another dog/cat flea and tick killer) will NOT cure mites. But will cure lice. Mites can only be treated by Ivermectin.
