Hi, I was thinking about buying a piggy bed spread (zebra with green sides). But, I was wondering if it is worth the price because they are quite expensive! So I was wondering , are piggy bed spreads worth the price? Do you use a piggy bedspread? Thanks :cheerful:

We didn't buy one from them but made one that I imagine is pretty close and love it. We didn't price it out but can only imagine how much we would spend on bedding (care fresh/wood/hay ect.) if we had to fill our 2x5 and 1x3 kitchen every week. I think one bedspread would cost about the same as a few months of that and now I don't have to deal with the clean up of that much bedding and it's not all over my house. Our hay box and litter box have it in it and a few stray piece make it out now and then but nothing like if the cage was completely full of it. I would say they are worth it.

YES, YES and YES again - unless you have eveything you need ans feel liek sewing a lot. They are very well made and make cleaning 97% easier than bepfre I had them.

i've got 2 cage and 3 bedspreads so one is always in the wash... I was using my own fleece liners that did not go up the sides of the cage and didn't have the non-permiable liner and i'd have to deal with the dleece but ALSO all the $hit and other stuff inder the fleece. now I' just lift it all out and shake into the trasha and wash... I will say that my pans seem to be just a bit bigger than the under lining so when a pig pees in along the edge there is soom evidence on the pan once I lift the bedspread off - but it does not take long to wip[e off and most of the messy gross stuff comes up with the bed spread.

So as a busy person who'd rather spend my time playing with and spoiling my pets than cleaning up after them I say it's totally worth it.

I've made my own fleece liners, with sides going up on the coro. Was very cheap and easy to make. I would never do without it! Unclip, roll, clean coro, spread clean one, clip. Done.
So if you know how to sew.. do it. I dont know about the ones they sell.. seemed expensive to me.

Definitely yes! I have two at the moment, and hope to get another two soon. They have made cleaning time so much easier as it has cut down dramatically the time it takes to clean the cages. There is no hassle mucking around with towels, it goes in easily and comes out just as easy. Works brilliantly for burrowing pigs too! Prior to the bedspreads I would fold the fleece underneath the towels - the issue with this was that the poops would then get trapped between the fleece and the sides. With the bedspread system the poops are kept contained. It is also heaps better at controlling odour. I can get more days out of it before it even remotely begins to smell.

I think they are rather expensive when you can make them yourself or find someone you know who sews and see how much they'd charge you to sew them.

Yeah i also make my own because they were so expensive. They are worth it, but I would try and make your own before spending a lot on it.

I absolutely love my bedspreads. I spent $115 on both together which is pretty expensive. I'm sure I could have made my own but I didn't know how to. Mine are lime green and hot pink with zebra sides and they just brighten up my room. Hope this helps.

They are okay. I have a couple of piggybedspreads and liners. They make cleanup lots faster and easier. I also use fleece that I clip over the sides of the coroplast to make it look nice. I think whatever works best for you is what you should go with.

I make my own by sewing fleece to a cotton rich mattress pad. I change my fleece pads daily because I have 16 piggies in one cage. There is no way I could do regular fleece and towels, it would take too long. With my liners, I just shake them off, vacuum and put a new one down. I have 3 2x4 and 2 2x3 liners in my cage, along with a kitchen area, and my cleaning takes about 30 minutes. I would say the bedspreads are way too pricey. I have no sewing skills but it isn't hard at all to cut fleece and run a few straight stitches with the sewing machine. Each liner took me about 20 minutes to make and I can use whatever fleece I want and I can make matching tents, pads, etc.

I don't really know how to sew either. ;)
This is how I made my own piggy bedspread.

The pigs won't mind if your stitches are not straight!

Maybe you can ask someone to sew them for you. I made fleece pads and when I buy the fleece and batting on sale, I can make each for a few dollars. I use two to fit the cage.

They're so cheap to make, with all the options out there, that I'm not sure it's worth it to buy. But it definitely beats paying for Carefresh or something for the same period of time, and the pigs love it. I've been given a piggy bedspread -- unfortunately not the same size as my cage -- and you definitely get your money's worth in terms of quality.

I just bought one along with a pre-cut coroplast tray.. and it is beautiful.

I can't even draw straight lines.. so I had a hard time even making the tray before..

It was worth it to me to purchase the bed spread..

It doesn't really matter if we think it is worth it or not, in the end, what matters is rather or not it is worth it to you.

She has priced one 3x5 piggybeadspread for $120.00, the materials (fleece, zorb, procare, and thread) costed her to make the one about $40.00.

I just made 1 3x6 liner that goes up the inner sides of my cage as I don't want to cover the wall border paper that I have for my cage up and it costed me to make that one with velcro all the way around $45.00 and took me about 3 hours total to make.

To me I would say no they are not worth it since I can make my self. I would have to agree that making your own would be better or paying a friend to make it for you would be a lot cheaper in the long run.

Bedspreads and cage liners DEFINITELY save time and mess during cage cleaning. I had Jen's Custom Crafts make 2 custom L-shaped cage liners for me when she had her buy 1, get 1 free sale. It was still expensive (over $100), as they are 2x6 reversible, but they have transformed cage cleaning for me. All I do is take out the pig/toys/hideys, etc, roll up the dirty liner, shake it outside and toss it in the washer. Then I take the spare (clean) liner and put it in the cage. The liner contains all the pee so that I don't even need to wipe down my coroplast anymore first! (Bear in mind that I have a kitchen area and currently only 1 pigger.)

I think the bed spreads are GREAT (going up and over the walls of the cage make cleaning a breez).

As for worth it it depends on if you have a sewing machine and do you like or hate to sew? how easily can you get materials... for me I have to mai orer and pay shiping on all materials, beause I dno't have a care to get to the store with (and there is no public transportation to the faberic store). then I havew to take over the kitchen and dinning room to cut faberic and set up the sewing machine. and add to that that I HATE to sew. I also work more than full time and I'm in gradate school so free time is is rave for me. so for me there are worth the cost. on the other hand if you can get to a faberic store that sells eveything you need, have a sewing machine and a large area to cut faberic and you don't mind sewing, then save some $$$ and make your own. only you know the value of your time vs. ordering them.

I use the fleece on top of 2 layers of the Uhaul blanket. But I don't use Coro so no need for sides. I haven't sewn anything (I can. Just decided there was no reason to.). I have 3 fleece pieces and 3 Uhual blankets that gives me 3 full cage changes. All total I spent $12 on Fleece and $25 on Uhual blankets. Do "I" think a $115 sheet is worth it? No way!

I actually like that my pieces aren't sewn together because of the size of my cage (3 foot by 4 foot). I think they would really throw my washer off if they were sewn together.

It doesn't slow down my cage change either. I move the cage (it sets on the edges of my bedding) then fold all the bedding onto its self with all the poop to the middle and carry it outside to dump in the garden. Then I just spread out a new Uhaul and new fleece and set the cage back on top. all and all it takes me about 20-30 minutes including the time to wash the floor and pans and change out the hay. MAYBE. I could do it faster if I wanted to.

So no. I wouldn't pay those prices for bedding.
