My two pigs seem really desperate for food after I cut them back on their pellets. They used to get 1/4 cup of pellets a day each but after discovering that that was too much I cut them back to 1/8 cup of pellets a day each. They get unlimited hay and 2-3 leafs of romaine very night. Is this normal? Is there a way they need to get used to less pellets? Thanks!

How old are they? If they're less than six months, give them unlimited pellets. If they're over six months, you were right to cut them back.

But they do need a source of vitamin C. Bell peppers are a great way to do it. If they don't like the taste at first, see https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/threads/105287-How-to-teach-a-guinea-pig-to-eat-vegetables for how to teach them to eat peppers.

You could increase the veggies. In addition to hay, pellets and lettuce, mine get a small chunk of carrot, a wheel of English cucumber, a wheel of summer squash, a hunk of tomato, and bell pepper every day. They also get young green beans, radicchio, and belgian endive on a fairly regular basis. See https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...vy-Nutrition-Charts-amp-Poisonous-Plants-List for what they can have and how often.

Spread the pellets out over the day and feed at a consistent times. My girls get half in the morning and half in the evening. They have come to expect pellets, veggies, or treats at a specific time. Now we are all trained! If I'm a minute late with a feeding they wheek like crazy. lol
