my friend is gone on a school trip to england so I took the oppertunity to care for her pigs. I wanted to get a good look at them. They have bad skin! its not mites, just dandruff, their ears have alot of wax and dead skin around the insides. Their toe nails were long and curled, but I suppose thats another story, I cut them off, I think my friend is afraid to hurt them, but I clipped them right off and knicked the quicks, they didn't bleed much, but im sure the few moments of pain is worth it to not have crooked toes! do you think the skin is a dietary thing? coudl teher be a shampoo or conditioner that coudl clear it up? I work at a shelter so I can bring home conditioners and shampoos to use on them, aswell as cleaners for their ears. my piggies are im great shape on the other hand, Im not very partial to pigs but i still care for them, veggies every night, clean the cage, always food and water, and the nails stay short to prevent toe curling. too bad not everyone took the 5 minutes to prevent these things from happening!

most skin ailment articals are on mites, which i've checked the pigs for and see no signs, infact their fur is so thick it may be from the skin being unable to breath properly! lol

No, it could be fungus. Are they teddies or texels? Sometimes they get waxy ears due to their breed.

It's acctually probably mites. You can't see mites. They should be treated for lice and mites. Use Ivermectin and Advantage or Revolution.

Good luck with sorting that out. One or two of mine always seem to have dry skin, I know it isn't mites, they get treated for that, and it's not the same - I have experienced mites before. Just seems to be that a certain one is prone to it.
