Hello. So at the end of August I got a guinea pig from PetSmart (I know people's view but I do not have much of a choice) His name is Marshmallow. He did great with the introduction with my four other males and he fits right in. No fighting etc. I let him have his space for awhile so he could get used to his surroundings. (This isn't my first rodeo lol) When I give them treats they come up to take them from my hand but he won't so I just toss it over by him. I don't force it. I was sick for awhile so I didn't get to handle them as much. When I got better I checked them over and I even took Marshmallow outside for a little bit to eat some grass for the first time. However, everytime Im able to pick him up, he squeals so loud and high pitched and it goes on for 5-10 mins. A lady walking her dog stopped and was staring at me wondering what I was doing because he was so loud. But one time I had him on my bed with me after he settled down and he kept running into my lap but wouldn't take food from me. I have used those critter cuddles like I did with my others so he can feel safe but he still "screams". Is this normal or is there something I can do to help him calm down faster? He sounds like I'm killing him.

*Note... I have examined him and he isnt hurt and he doesn't do the screaming when I examine him. It's just when I first pick him up.

It's normal. You have a very vocal pig, and he may or may not become quieter with time. ALL of my pigs were vocal when they were very young and only one (Simon) stayed that way. The rest all quieted down to the point where I wondered if something was wrong.

Personally, I LOVE a vocal pig. :)
