I thought i knew how to pick them up properly, but now ive been hearing lots of different things. what is the safest, proper way to do it?

also - just as a side note - when carrying your pigs from their cage to their floortime location, do you just hold them in your arms or do you transport them in the carrier.

I think your supposed to put one hand on their bottom, and another supporting the top, but my pig does't like that, so I just frimly hold himaround his waist. I know I'm doing this wrong, but he won't let me pick him up any other way. + I have a pet store cage, but I'm making a larger cage as soon as possible.

And when moving them to the floor, hold your pig in your arms, firmly, so he/she can get more use to you, carriers are used for long distance traveling to the vet and such.

I pick up my pigs all the time. I scoop them up from the side with both hands and have them sit on my fore arm, close to my chest, and the other hand holding their other side for balance.

In fact, when my pigs want to go back to their cage (usually to pee or poop), they will automatically climb up my arm and sit there waiting to be taken back. It's quite amusing!

I usually kneel down beside the cage and then scoop them up by putting my hand under their chest. I quickly get my other hand and support their bums. I put them close to my chest when moving them from my room to another.

ok, thanks for the replies! i see there ar many ways to do it, and the basic idea is to support their side and rear end, and once you've got them, hold them secure against your body so they feel safe.

Yes, support their bottom, and under their bellies. I put mine against my shoulder while carrying to make them feel secure. Never pick them up around their middle without supporing them any other way. It squishes their internal organs and can break their delicate bones!

Hmmm... I'll try to find some. Hold on

thank you bunches, im going to have a look at it right now!

No problem. Sorry if it's not what you are looking for.

very helpful - it answered lots of questions. now, does anyone have pictures.

I don't know about everyone else but my pigs are very bottom heavy so it's practically impossible for me to pick them up without supporting their bottoms. Also mine are male so they have rather "enlarged" genetalia so I have to be careful where my fingers are! lol

Yes, me, too. =)

pictures? anyone? someone?

No, I don't have any but be sooo careful when you put them back in the cage. When I first got mine, they leaped out my hand and it was very scary. Hold them firmly

I agree! When one of mine sees his cage, he is so eager to get back that he thinks he can hop into it even though it's across from the room!
