So, I ran into Petsmart today to get some Cavy Cuisine. I usually order it from Drs Foster and Smith but I completely and totally for i was running low.
While I was there I saw 2 ladies talking about guinea pigs. One lady was telling the other that if she got a hidey for the piggies they would not be as social.
I instantly tried to figure out a way to make my way into their conversation. When I heard the advice giver say she was a breeder, I just had to interrupt and tell the lady there are other options for a hiding space without taking up space in the cage. I told her about the fleece forest and how my boys are very social and they have always had a place to hide.
The breeder agreed with me, but went on to say that maybe after she got them socialized to put in a hidey. I said that a hidey helps them to feel more secure so they need something along those lines.
I told her about the website. I repeated it several times. She said she had 3 guinea pigs. I did not even think to ask where she bought them and if she was sure they were all the same gender. They are in a petstore cage though. If they are males that is gonna be a horrible situation x 10000.
I saw her jot down the website address. I hope she comes on to get info and ask questions. I told her that I had a cage 7 - 10 times the size of the pet store cage and paid a fraction of the cost (monetary benefits are often a good way to get someone to do something).
I feel like I should hang out at the guinea pig section of the store and serve as a public service announcement.
