I know I do not post that often. But reading through all the various forums and such I wanted to share something for the ones I have read on the way people look at raising their pets:

For example I have seen posts where someone says well its not the "only" way to do it with the guinea....or they dont "have" to have that...statements along those lines.

I know when I explain this to my children the easiest way I understand is like this:

Instead of saying guine pig lets say person. For example, a guinea pig doesnt have to have anything other than pellets and water turns into a person doesnt have to have anything other than gruel and water everyday to survive.

My kids get it pretty quick when I do that to them...when I explain that well a person can live in a room the size of the bathroom, have gruel and water every day and never come out and have no toys and yet still "survive"...they pretty quickly get why is important to do the best they can to have a larger cage, better and more variety of foods, playtime and toys, other guinea pig friends instead of just a solo one and so forth.

I know I know, I am rambling I just wanted to say that on here.

I think it's because we assume most people here are old enough and mature enough to understand it without having to resort to that. We seem to assume people can put themselves into other peoples and animals' shoes and know why they need the basics. We also assume people want to do what's best for the animals and sometimes it's painfully obvious, even to the novice guinea pig owner.

ie. I have Kero in my store bought quarntine cage right now. He gets to move out today (yippie ) He's making a mess right now since he wants to run around and does not have the room. Now I know I have to move him, but it was a quarntine verses space issue and the health of all my pets, to me is more important then his temporary discomfort. But if I had bought that deluxe guinea pig *home* (the biggest at PetSmart I could find) and still had the intention of permanently keeping a guinea pig in it, don't you think I'd get the drift when I see him making a mess out of his cage because he wants more space?

What animals want isn't than complicated. With minimal reasearch and a bit of common sense one can figure out what a guinea pig needs.

Heck, I'm a blonde and I'd like to think my pigs are happy.
