Teeth Percy & Dipper's Med Thread

Hi all!

I am returning from a two day vacation. My piggies were watched by my mother and she did a great job but I came home today and noticed my sweet Percy boy is rocking some vampire teeth.

Does anyone have experience on this? Guinealynx mentions they will grow back on their own, but the shape of the break makes me worried he will have trouble grinding down his teeth when he eats hay. I'm wondering if I should consult a vet or wait and watch.

They SHOULD even themselves out, and you should notice it starting to happen over the next few days. I would, however, monitor very closely for any more breakage. I had this happen to Leo a few months ago. We took him in and the vet wasn't going to do anything, but decided to anyway. He was back to normal within a week.

Also make sure he's getting enough to eat. If he's having trouble you may need to handfeed him. Veggies cut into long matchstick pieces are good because they can be pushed back to the molars.

If he's having trouble or any more damage occurs, definitely get him in to see a vet.

They'll probably even out. If they don't, you can get a glass file and file off the sharp point.

If you do wind up taking him to a vet, be sure to keep the vet from clipping them too short. Non-exotic vets usually think the teeth are too long, cut them too short, and then the pig can't pick up its food.
