URI/Upper Respiratory Infection Pepper has a URI I think. med questions.

My piggie Pepper has been sneezing since the day after I brought her home. didn't think much of it due to pollen and dust and stuff. last night tho she started coughing. This morning there was a greenish yellow discharge from her nose. I'm taking her to the vet at 4 est. What I would like help with is what are the meds that she will be taking and what meds are not good for her to take? also what probiotic should I get for her to take while on her meds and were can I get it?

Please take care of this my first guinea pig i had died from URI and it killed me my little female now sometimes sneezes but i had her checked out by a vet and she just has alergies but never take this lightley

I dont plan to jparker . I already have an app. at my vet and will be getting her and her sister honey seen in about an hour. will post again with the results. I just remember seeing a post about dangerous meds and wanted to know what they were before I went in. wanted to make sure I get the right stuff for her. the exotics vet is out of town but the other vet that she works with is willing to take a look and they can call her if needed. i didnt want to wait till monday for her to get back.

These are soy based, which is important if you are looking for liquid probiotics. Give probiotics 2 hours after antibiotic administration. An extra daily serving won't hurt, especially if you see soft poops.

I got mine from Sprouts, a local "farmer's market"-esque grocery store. I would imagine you can get what I posted, or something similar, from your local pharmacy/any store with a health section. Like I said, as long as it is lactose-free, any generic acidophilus will work.

Plain acidophilus caplets work as well; you can sprinkle the acidophilus onto some lettuce with those.

We are back from the vet and pepper is fine. we caught is early and it hadn't gotten into her lungs yet. she is on albon for 14 days. The vet wanted to use baytril but didn't want to chance affecting her growth. Albon was the next best thing they had on hand. So glad she is going to be ok. He gave me enough to treat Honey if she starts getting sick. I hope she likes butterscotch Here are couple pictures of them both at the vets. I took them both so they could keep each other company. I think its funny how they both wanted to stay in the little cup and not the bigger one.
