I had Atticus out alone last night for lap time and he was on a practically white towel(actually off-white) . He peed as he usually does, but it had like an orangish tint to it. What could this mean? I am going to have him out in a clear box later to see what is going on with him, it could have been just the towel but I'm not sure, I hope he's ok because going to the vet may be a stretch. I hope he's ok,also, because I love him.

Has he eaten red pepper/carrots recently?

I have seen all different pee colors. Whiteish, yellow, orangeish.

he actually has had less red pepper than usual and the normal amount of carrots. I may have just never noticed it before, it dried normally

Maybe if he pees oringish again then you may want to worry about it but if not I think it is normal.

Kalrik>> Just a tip I got from my exotic vet -- whiteish (milky) looking pee usually indicates too much calcium in their system and you need to cut back on it (things like parsley - not sure what else) or they can develop stones.

Dagwell >> What about beets/beet tops? I know what it does to me..... :p

Unless your piggy urinates on something clear colored how do you know what color your piggy's urine is if they go on shavings or newspapers. I cant tell the color. And if you have more than one piggy how do you know which one went.

Ah, yes, Pennick! And therein lies the rub! :) I thought the same thing later on after I left the vets. So, I gave each pig an assigned corner to pee in. That did not work. So, now they have to pee in a cup every Friday. :) HE HE HE HE HE HE!!!!

Okay, no, I'm kidding....I have no idea how you tell, to be honest! I guess if you just notice it then great. I suppose it's not something to really concern yourself with unless you give them ridiculous amounts of calcium rich food.

Okay. All I can say is sometimes after reading all these posts with all these piggy problems, by the end of the day I'm a little nuts. Don't get me wrong. Its great to have all this knowledge about our pets so we can help them when needed, but on the other hand sometimes I think too much knowledge isn't so great. We look for trouble when there isnt any. Is she too skinny, too fat, is she scratching, is she peeing white, does she grunt when she pees, is her skin clear, does she have any fur missing, etc, etc. Its enough to send me to the doctor, forget about my piggies.

I know, I know, better safe than sorry.

Yeah, you're right. Too much of a good thing, eh?It's like with my kids, I can't overanalyze everything or they'll grow up all neurotic and need therapy (though they might anyway!!).

Well he seems normal, and I guess it isn't a sign of any big disease or something so I won't worry about it for now.

What would you say to the vet if you brought your piggy in. By the way doc, my piggy may have urinated orange, is he sick? $500.00 later, he seems healthy to me.

I think I need a break.

Cosmo's pee is orangey-brown on the white towels. But I remember someone saying that the pee comes out pretty clear, but oxidizes orange afterward.
His buddy Timmy has never had orange pee stains.... I figure it's just different chemistry.

Baby bears. It doesn't come out really white, just dries white. I don't feed them parsley or any food high in calcium, so I know they don't have too much.

Same here. I don't feed that much but I have a dark towel as bedding so when I wash it theres always white patches everywhere.

The pee actually COMES OUT oranges, then dries clear, it was weird, I haven't noticed it lately, but I usually don't check.

The orange color is probably from something he ate. If any of your pigs are peeing white a lot then you need to feel the dried spots and check for grit. If it feels powdery, it's fine, if it feels gritty then it can be a sign of bladder sludge. The best thing to do in either situation is to cut back on the amounts of the high calcium foods. I did that with my girls and now they rarely pee white.
