Outside run time

Where I live the weather has been very warm and sunny this last week, and in the evenings when the sun is no longer bright I've been putting my girls outside in a run made from garden mesh wrapped around metal garden chair legs. I watch over them the whole time they are out.

It just seems such a shame for them to miss out on the good weather that is so rare in England, and they love to munch on the grass.

However, my older pig, Nixa, has been a little bit snotty ever since I rescued her. She sneezes occasionally and fairly often has a slightly runny nose. She doesn't cough and her health has not deteriorated in the least since I first got her - she seems far healthier and happier now than she did at first, in fact. But this snuffle makes me very wary of putting her outside to run; am I putting her health at risk? Can an experienced cavy owner please give me some advice about putting my girls outside; should I or shouldn't I?

Also, which is the bigger danger of putting cavies outside to run; sun stroke from being too hot or a URI from being too cold? Thanks in advance.

Outside time, when done properly is great!!!

Have you checked the bedding to see if it is the cause of your pigs nasal distress?

Both URI and heatstroke are equally important to watch for. Just be careful and it should be fine!!!

Lots of luck,
Marie

maybe you should stop letting that running nose pig of yours to run outside for couple of days or weeks to see if she gets better. By then you still can let her out there, it's not going to be to late. rather be safe than sorry.
