I am a little nervous about posting these pictures since everyone is so anti kids with pets. I grew up having pets as kids with my parents help and now we are giving our children then same advantage. I think the love and bond between a child and their pet is a very special one and I am loving watching my children talk in baby voices to them and caring for them. We are the ultimate caregivers but the girls do help out and we all adore having these little critters as part of our family.

Here's our babies....Squeeks and Smores....

I think it is great that you got your two girls guinea pigs. It teaches great responsibility and guinea pigs are great for that! It looks like the kids guinea pigs must love them to death judging by how much food they feed them! I remember when I got my guinea pig and he was there size but smaller. Just watch out for the kids and when they take them out just supervise them. Do they share the same cage?

They are soo cute!! And you take amazing pictures! Your girls are very cute! (both the guinea pigs and your children haha) I disagree with children not being able to have guinea pigs i think they make wonderful pets for them. Congrats on your piggies and good luck with them! (like i said: ADORABLE!!!) I can tell your girls love them too :)

Also thought I'd mention, I love there names! lol

P.S. Is the pool there cage? Or is that just for holding them? I like the idea of using it for lap time! :)

Congratulations on your new additions! Where did you get that gigantic pool? I really want one. I'm sure your girls will be great with the pigs, but as a suggestion I would tell them to treat the piggies like babies; if you wouldn't do it to a baby, don't do it to the piggies. They look like they will be great with the pigs thought :)

they have a seperater between them now because they were suppose to be 2 girls and one is a boy. he is going to get fixed on Monday and then they will be back together ina few weeks. They are a ot more fun then we thought they would be and it's so fun to see them interact. they get so excited now when they get to go into their "pool" (must find something else other then this when they get bigger), they just squeak so much. They love the girls. The girls sit in there and they run to them and crawl in their laps. When the girls leave they start whistling really loud to get them to come back. So cute!!!

the pool is NOT their cage. lol That is just their "floor time" and it is nice because the girls can easily get in and out and then they are in the middle of the action. Our house is a very open floor plan so I am unsure as to how to do floor time yet. I want a cage but it has to be big and easy for the girls to get in and out of. And the girls are VERY gentle. I tell them to handle them but to not over do it and let them just run around too. They know they are not allowed to stand up with them and they are not allowed to just take them out of their cages whenever they want. it is my job to transfer them and everything in our house, not just the babies, are permission only. They have to ask to get them out and play with them because we have to be available to watch over them. That is when the open floor plan does come in handy because they are always in view no matter where I am.

That's awesome! So they are in a C&C cage? Also, which one turned out to be a boar?

they are in a LARGE pet store cage but we are building the C&C cage now. I know someone who has fostered piggies for years and she is bringing ovder coroplast (sp?) this week to show me how to cut it and fold it into a base. I was going to do a 2x4 but I feel like it might be too small once they get big? I may go bigger or maybe I will add a loft. I do have cats so it will have to have a lid and I don't know how hard that would be to have a loft and a lid.
The male is Squeaks...the white and grey one. We opted for our daughter to choose and go get another from the litter we adopted them from and she was in tears...she was already so in love with him and really, the two piggies are so bonded. They whistle for each other if only one is getting held and she follows him around everywhere.

A 2x4 is what is recommended for 2 piggies and if you need a cover a multi-level can get kinda hard (when catching them) but bigger is always better but if you are adding a loft i suggest making a 2x5 with a loft because the ramp will count against square footage but there are many multi-level closed cage ideas on here so be sure to check them out for ideas :) I'm sure your little ones would love to help you out with that:) -P.S. Are they twins?- That is so cute that they whistle for each other like that! Hopefully all goes well w/ the surgery

Because Coroplast is a name not recognized by the spell checker. It is the trade name for corrugated plastic. lol

Ohhhh ok thanks lol

thanks so much!!!

Just adorable(piggies and kids)! I love the kiddie pool idea for floor time with kids, that way everybody is contained:D and if one of the piggies runs off it won't get loose!

Where did you get the pool?

Your kids, furry and human, are adorable. I have a little boy and he is the same way with our 2 boars. Thanks for sharing, and the pool was an ingenius idea!

Oh, so lovely! Your girls and their piggies are all so cute!

I absolutely love the idea of the pool for a floor time play area! Your girls and pigs are too adorable! :)

Are your girls (the humans lol) twins??

No the girls are 2 years apart. I get asked that a lot but only when they are sitting down. Standing there is a huge difference. I have had the pool forever for my kids. I got it at Toys R Us. I am sure over the summer they will be in stock. It works great. I think they just wish they could see out when they are in there but beyond that it is a really good amount of room for them to run around and plus have a couple kids in there too. Thanks for letting me know it might be a good idea. I feel silly with a pool in my living room but oh well...it works! lol
