Could eating a lot of carrots turn a Guinea pig's urine orange? I know in people it can turn skin orange, I don't know about urine. The pigs have gotten more carrot than normal in the last few days, as we were out of the green veggies they normally get, and my son wanted them to have some kind of a treat. We moved them into the new large (2x4 cubes) cage today, and the bottom is a white shower curtain, with fleece over it. I just looked and the fleece was pulled away a little, and on the white shower curtain there was some orange liquid. It didn't look bloody, I work for a vet (but we only see dogs and cats), so I have seen a lot of infected and bloody urine, and it didn't look like that. It looked like carrot juice. Any thoughts? I just read about carrots being bad in excess, so will decrease the carrot, but in the meantime?

Is it possible your guinea pig threw up a little??

Maybe I guess. I didn't even think of that. It was all liquid, and very orange, it very well could have been vomit, with flecks of carrot in it. I checked today, urine is back to normal.

Guinea pigs cannot throw up. Thats why they dont have to fast before surgery. Sometimes their urine will turn brown. There is another post kind of like this somewhere around here.

carrots are not bad for piggies.. :)

Chrisartist, posted this on www.petshub.com
in the guinea pig forum. I just wanted to pass the good info on to someone else that might need it. I hope this helps you.

Yes, carrots can turn their urine orange, as well as dandelions. I don't think there's any need to worry if they seem healthy otherwise!

It's not advisable to feed them too much carrot a day.
